Overall Job Purpose:
To serve as the primary interface between the bursary function and the finance department, ensuring effective financial management, reporting, and compliance of bursary funds. The role is responsible for maintaining financial integrity, managing budgets and reconciliations, supporting audit processes, and enabling informed decision-making through accurate financial reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Budget Control

Monitor and control bursary budgets across all campuses.

Oversee processing of bursary payments, ensuring accuracy and timeliness

Perform monthly reconciliations and resolve discrepancies

Enforce financial controls and compliance with policies
Financial Reporting an Analyses
- Prepare ad hoc, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

Produce sponsor-specific financial statements and utilisation reports.

Generate management reports for the Registrar, Executive Management, and Finance Department.

Analyse funding utilisation patterns and expenditure trends.

Provide insights on bursary sustainability and funding requirements.

Identify financial risks and opportunities for improved fund management.

Provide financial information to support strategic planning.

Develop financial forecasts and projections.

Present financial findings and recommendations to management.
Stakeholder Engagement
-
Act as liaison between finance, bursary teams, and campuses

Provide guidance on financial processes and compliance

Resolve financial queries and escalations
-
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders.

Support reporting obligations to sponsors and funding partners.
-
Assist in responding to donor financial queries.

Ensure financial reporting obligations are met according to agreements.
Compliance, Governance and Audit Support

Ensure compliance with institutional financial policies and procedures.

Monitor adherence to donor funding conditions.
-
Ensure compliance with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.

Prepare financial documentation required for internal and external audits.

Coordinate audit requests relating to bursary funds.

Address audit findings and implement corrective actions.

Identify financial and compliance risks.
-
Recommend and implement mitigation measures.

Monitor compliance controls and report exceptions.
Process Improvement and Administrative Support

Review financial processes and recommend improvements.
-
Support automation initiatives and system enhancements.

Contribute to policy and procedure development.

Maintain accurate financial records.

Ensure document retention requirements are met.

Participate in continuous improvement activities.
Minimum Educational Requirement:
-
Bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) in finance, accounting, or related field.
Minimum Work Requirement:
-
3 – 5 years’ experience in finance/accounting role.
-
3 years’ experience in financial reporting/ budget management.
