Position Summary
Mediterranea Fisheries is seeking a hardworking, reliable, and experienced Fish Cutter and Fryer to join our team in Mitchells Plain. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing fish products, operating frying equipment, maintaining food quality standards, and ensuring a clean and safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities Fish Cutting and Preparation
- Clean, scale, fillet, portion, and prepare fish according to company standards.
- Remove bones and trim fish products as required.
- Ensure all fish is handled and stored correctly to maintain freshness and quality.
- Minimise waste and maximise yield during the cutting process.
Frying and Cooking
- Prepare and fry fish and related products according to company recipes and procedures.
- Monitor oil quality and frying temperatures.
- Ensure products are cooked consistently and meet quality standards.
- Prepare customer orders accurately and efficiently.
Food Safety and Hygiene
- Adhere to all food safety, hygiene, and health regulations.
- Maintain a clean and sanitised work area, equipment, and utensils.
- Follow stock rotation procedures and ensure proper storage of products.
- Report any quality or food safety concerns to management immediately.
Customer Service
- Assist customers professionally and courteously when required.
- Ensure customer orders are prepared correctly and delivered promptly.
- Contribute to a positive shopping experience.
Minimum Requirements
- Previous experience in fish cutting, seafood preparation, or a similar role.
- Experience operating commercial fryers and food preparation equipment.
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Experience within the seafood, fisheries, or food retail industry.
- Basic understanding of stock control and waste management.
