JOB DESCRIPTION: ASSISTANT ARTISAN
Position Title: Assistant Artisan

Reports To: Artisan / Site Supervisor / Site Manager

1. JOB PURPOSE
To provide technical and operational assistance to qualified artisans in the installation, maintenance, servicing and repair of refrigeration, air-conditioning, gas and associated mechanical systems. The Assistant Artisan supports the Artisan in completing work safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist qualified artisans with installation, maintenance and repair activities.
- Assist with refrigeration, air-conditioning and associated mechanical work.
- Prepare tools, equipment and materials required for assigned tasks.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of pipes, fittings, components and equipment.
- Assist with fault-finding and basic troubleshooting.
- Assist with testing and commissioning activities.
- Handle tools and equipment safely and correctly.
- Maintain work areas in a clean, organised and safe condition.
- Assist with the transportation, positioning and preparation of equipment and materials.
- Follow instructions provided by the responsible Artisan or Supervisor.
- Report defective tools, equipment, materials and unsafe conditions.
- Assist with preventative maintenance activities.
- Ensure refrigerants and gas-related equipment are handled in accordance with applicable requirements and under appropriate supervision.
- Comply with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
- Maintain good housekeeping at the workplace and project site.
- Perform any other reasonable duties within the scope of the position.
3. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirement:
- Active SAQCC Gas Category A or B licence.
- Minimum of 9 years' relevant experience in an artisan support, refrigeration, air-conditioning, gas or related technical environment.
4. TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Basic knowledge of refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
- Basic knowledge of gas systems and associated equipment.
- Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
- Basic fault-finding and troubleshooting ability.
- Understanding of safe work practices.
- Ability to follow technical instructions and procedures.
- Knowledge of workplace safety requirements.
