We are looking for an experienced and strong Divisional Safety Officer to oversee, organize, and carry out comprehensive health and safety audits, as well as assess and enhance the health and safety practices across three (3) Viking Fishing sites.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
-
Ensuring compliance with the Occ. Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993 and Regulations.

Developing, Implementing, Maintaining and Monitoring of OH&S Management Systems and Risk Grading documentation for the whole division.

Engage and ensure integration of cross-functional teams and H&S initiatives for the whole division.

Developing, Implementing, Maintaining and Reviewing of HIRA (Hazard Identification Risk Assessment) for the whole division.

Identifying hazards and assessing risks ensuring compliance with legislation and promoting a culture of health and safety in the workplace.

Updating of HIRA for the whole division in terms of any changes to Legislation and considering how risks could be reduced /mitigated/quantified.

Developing, Implementing, and Reviewing of Administrative Controls-this includes both Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Safe Working Procedures (SWP’s) which identify and take account for all relevant hazards pertaining to the whole division.

Carry out regular site inspections to ensure compliance and to see whether policies and procedures are being properly implemented.

Developing, Implementing, and Reviewing of Letters of Appointments for the whole division.

Monitor the Health and Safety training matrix and assist with In-house training with Line Management and employees for the whole division.

Keeping records of inspection findings and producing reports that suggest improvements.

Recording and investigation of incidents maintaining incident statistics and trend analysis for the whole division.

Determining further Corrective- and Preventative Action Rectifications regarding severity of Incidents / Accidents.

Developing, Implementing, Maintaining and Monitoring of Action Plans all Audits and appliable surveys.

Developing and ensuring compliance with the Contractor Management System as per the applicable legislation.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Health and Safety compliance.

Essential experience: 5-8 years’ experience in a Health and Safety role within an operational environment, with a solid foundation of the OSHA, NEMA and relevant legislation.

Desirable experience: Knowledge in ISO 45001 and 14001 standards will be advantageous. Experience in internal and external auditing is preferred.

Administrative: Excellent organizational and systematic skills with strong attention to detail and a focus on quality output.

Technical Skills: Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office with confidence in data analysis and report writing.
