We are seeking to appoint a Production Supervisor, who will coordinate to meet and facilitate safety, production, sustainability, and quality standards. The Production Supervisor will provide leadership and management to the departments on individual shifts to achieve company’s core strategies.
The Role
In this exciting and varied role, you will:

Responsible to oversee the production activities for all three shifts.

Responsible to ensure that finished products are manufactured on time, in the right quantity which are of good quality.

Responsible to liaise with internal departments such as production planning, purchasing, customer services, dispatch, and engineering in relation to production issues in a timely manner.

Responsible for all Health and Safety aspects and ensures that guidelines are adhered to.

Supervise, motivate, and effectively manage a team of shift supervisors.

Assists in the facilitation of daily production meetings, holds weekly shift meetings with shift supervisors and attends all monthly safety meetings.

Coordinates production process with shift supervisors in their daily shift operations, machine manning and equipment operations.

Promotes waste reduction initiatives and process improvement operations.

Assists Production Operations Manager in coordinating production process with press leaders on scheduling requirements and materials coordination.

Assists Production Operations Manager in coordinating production process with slitter leaders to ensure finishing meets shipping schedules.

Assists Production Operations Manager in coordinating production process with ink department to improve efficiencies and reduce inventories.

Assists Production Operations Manager in coordinating production process with technical group for key product and process improvements, and other trial and tests.

Assists Production Operations Manager in coordinating production process with human resources for staffing, labour issues, grievance procedures, safety, and program policies.

Assists Production Operations Manager in coordinating production process with manufacturing services for materials planning, physical inventories, inventory management, and the schedule.

Review the performance of the shift supervisors and instigate disciplinary process when necessary.

Identify training needs and recommend corrective action for shift managers
- Assists Production Operations Manager in coordinating production process with maintenance for equipment upkeep and repair, and capital projects.

Assists Production Operations Manager in coordinating production process with quality assurance to ascertain that materials produce exceed customer expectations.

Work with senior managers and the HR team to implement, promote and work to the Company’s policies and procedures.

Undertake toolbox talks with the team to facilitate communication.

Promote positive working relationships between staff and management.

To achieve KPI’s set by the Production Manager.

To ensure the completion on a daily basis of the shift reports, identifying production issues, any lost time, breakdowns, and production shortfalls, etc.
The Person
To succeed in this role you will:

Follow H & S working practices in line with Company procedures.

Follow Company housekeeping procedures and maintain a clean and tidy area of work.

Follow Company procedures and policies re Spear Quality and ISO systems.

Participate in and monitor all continuous improvement programmes within the scope of the department and role.
Experience/ Skills required.
-
Diploma in mechanical or electrical engineering or qualified trade tested electrical/mechanical artisan or millwright – Essential
-
Undergraduate qualification in operations or production management skills – Added advantage.
-
Trade tested and qualified flexo/gravure/lithographic printer – Essential.

Formal Leadership training – Added advantage.
- 5-10 years supervisory role in manufacturing and or FMCG industry within operations – Essential

Knowledge and understanding of South African labour laws and application of COGP – Added advantage.

Lean or six sigma or operational excellence or project management formal training – Added advantage.
