A Geotechnical Engineering and Consulting firm based in Sandton, Gauteng, is looking for a hands-on Technician to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for testing, troubleshooting, quality control, and the installation of instrumentation on-site. This role involves working with a variety of instrumentation, managing installations, providing on-site problem-solving, and training and supervising personnel. The ideal candidate should be self-reliant, have practical experience working with their hands, and demonstrate the ability to tackle and resolve unexpected challenges. The position is based in Sandton and requires a valid driver's license, and own transport as frequent travel to various sites will be necessary. Qualifications Required: Artisan Trade or Diploma in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering. No prior work experience is required, although relevant experience would be advantageous.
Requirements:
- Trade Test/ Diploma/BTech Instrumentation/Electrical/Electronic/Electromechanical Engineering
- Work experience after graduation is not essential.
- Experience working with hand tools (either at home, hobbies or in a workshop).
- Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Exposure to the mining or civils industry would be desirable.
- Driving license and own transport.
- Currently residing in the Johannesburg area.
- Working knowledge of Afrikaans would be an advantage but not essential.
- Demonstrable interest in technology.
- Desire for site-work, project and site management.
- Ability to handle customer issues.
- Solid communication and report writing skills.
Duties:
- Installation and monitoring of instrumentation and real time monitoring systems.
- Providing on and offsite assistance to Clients and site teams.
- Provide onsite training.
- Providing support and technical assistance for our new technologies to staff and clients.
- Quality assurance on new products and any product returns.
- Recording inspection results by completing reports, summarizing re-works, database management.
- Providing information for preparing orders for dispatch and stock management.
- Evaluate problems and making initial recommendations for possible corrective and or preventive action.
- Assistance with instrumentation and equipment design and prototype development.
- Providing information to the sales department on technical queries.
- Product and site monitoring.
- Maintaining internal tracking documents.
