Medwell SA, provides comprehensive healthcare services across South Africa, specialising in home nursing, elderly care, palliative care, frail care, and assisted living solutions.
We are looking to employ a Healthcare Manager to be based at Deplattekloof Retirement Village. The successful candidate will be responsible for overall management of all healthcare services offered within the Retirement Estate.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Co-ordination and control of all services offered in the 12-bed care unit, 106 assisted living units and home based care services in village (currently 48 independent homes).
- Quality control of nursing care delivered by all nursing staff working in the unit, in collaboration with the Nursing Services Manager.
- Manage, implement and/or provide Primary Healthcare clinic services.
- Manage, co-ordinate and arrange services in Assisted living inclusive of Personal Care services in the Estate.
- Annual assessments of residents in clinic and at home (only on exception, where required due to mobility impairment).
- Perform clinical assessments and health screen reviews of prospective care unit and village residents.
- On stand-by to provide telephonic guidance/advice to Registered Nurses on shift as and when required.
- Manage and supervise the managed home based care services in collaboration with the Registered Nurse thereto appointed.
- Manage and/or supervise clinical information on software database for care unit, assisted living units and village.
- Prepare and present monthly reports and stats and presentation thereof as requested.
- Pro-actively manage staffing levels when occupancy is low in order to minimise the financial risk.
- Management and performance evaluation of all staff working in the care unit in collaboration with the Human Resources department and Nursing Services Manager.
- Manage and responsible for health and safety compliance as per company policies and OHS Act, including all responsibilities thereto attached.
- Control over the procurement and use of medication, medical supplies, and stock.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree qualified Registered Nurse with minimum five years' experience in a managerial position in the healthcare industry. (Management experience within the retirement industry beneficial.)
- Experience in Alzheimers’ Dementia/Memory Care
- Familiar with and working knowledge of The Older Persons Act (Act 13 of 2006)
- Knowledge and practical experience of the professional requirements and procedures required as stipulated in the Scope of Practice of the South African Nursing Council.
