About the role
HENSOLDT South Africa is seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Proposal Specialist to lead and coordinate the end-to-end proposal/bid process across complex technical and engineering opportunities.
The Proposal Specialist is responsible for managing the full proposal/bid lifecycle from opportunity handover through to submission and handover to delivery. The role ensures that proposals are compliant, competitive, commercially sound, accurately costed, and aligned with customer requirements while protecting the business from unmanaged risk, scope gaps, non-standard commitments, and unapproved obligations.
Working across a matrix organisation, the successful candidate will coordinate inputs from Sales, Engineering, Operations, Finance, Procurement, Legal, Project Management, and external partners to ensure the delivery of high-quality bid submissions.
This role does not perform sales, technical design, commercial negotiation, or project delivery activities but is accountable for the governance, quality, completeness, and timely execution of the bid process.

Qualifications and experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, Project Management, Commerce, or a related discipline.
Formal training in Bid Management, Project Management, Proposal Management, or equivalent.
Minimum 5 years' experience in bid management, proposal development, technical sales support, contract coordination, or a similar role within a technical, engineering, manufacturing, defence, or high-technology environment.
Proven experience working within cross-functional and matrix organisations.
Experience working with commercial contracts, tender submissions, and customer proposal processes.
Exposure to complex engineered products, systems, services, or solutions.

Key responsibilities
End-to-end bid management and governance
Manage and govern the full bid lifecycle to ensure compliant, approved, competitive, and timely bid submissions aligned to customer requirements and organisational objectives. es.
Scope, requirements and compliance control
Lead the definition, control, and traceability of customer requirements, technical scope, deliverables, assumptions, exclusions, and compliance obligations to ensure complete and executable bid submissions.
Costing, commercial alignment and Risk Management
Coordinate costing, pricing, commercial assumptions, contractual considerations, and risk management activities to ensure commercially viable, executable, and approved proposals.
Stakeholder and partner coordination
Coordinate internal stakeholders, partners, subcontractors, suppliers, and external consultants to ensure integrated, aligned, and high-quality bid submissions.
Submission, handover and continuous improvement
Manage bid submission, clarification, handover, and continuous improvement activities to ensure effective transition into execution and ongoing enhancement of bid quality and competitivenes
