To oversee the activity of the quality assurance department and staff, developing, implementing, and maintaining a system of quality and reliability testing for theorganization'sproducts and/or development processes.
To oversee site inspections and quality checks on substation projects; be responsible for theorganization, implementation, and scheduling of quality checks on equipment (power transformers, HV and MV switchgear, cabling, protection and control panels and equipment, battery chargers and batteries, civil scope (control buildings, fencing, substation platforms and structural steelwork))
Description
Responsibilities:
The major responsibility of this position is to ensure quality of work on substation sites across SA.
The position will involve liaising with Eskom Quality personnel, Engineers, and Project Managers.
Adherence to Quality system on site
Reporting on any non-conformances to the Construction Manager and Project Manager
IssuingNCRsto subcontractors and suppliers in line with Quality system
Ensure that the multidisciplinary engineering and design intent is being carried through the construction phase, supporting safe, successful construction completion, and ensuring commissioning and start-up success.
Develops an effective Quality Assurance and Quality Control team.
Develops plans to continually improve departmental performance.
Ensures the required level of Quality during the Construction Phase
Measure and control the Quality performance of the EPC contractor on site.
Ensure the custody of engineering assets (tools), including data, software, computers and other hardware and intellectual property.
Acquire and develop tools needed for an effective, competitive, and cost-efficient service.
Coordinate tools acquisition and development.
Participate in the project management team.
Manage individual quality members.
Manage KPIs of subordinates.
Compile all required QMS documents to conduct and control a successful project.
Manage the development and maintenance of Quality Management Systems
Develop and maintain system for measuring project Quality performance.
Coordinate functional quality audits.
Manage and report on the quality on all sites.
Align the quality activities and personnel to further the project objectives.
Ensure processes are in place to upgrade competence and skills at all levels.
Ensure that safe construction practices, policies and procedures are in place to achieve targets as per project plan.
Support the implementation of site HR practices.
Support the implementation of any SHE initiatives.
Interpret quality information and initiate and monitor corrective action and quality improvement programs.
Provide a handover procedure / system.
Ensure the quality produced on the Project is to the required procedures / specifications.
Keep up with state of the art in the field of Quality.

Quality Management and Quality Inspector Courses
Minimum Requirements:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
Electrical/Civil Engineering diploma and/or relevant trade test.
More than 5 years’ experience as a Clerk of Work/Site Supervisor on Eskom Transmission or Distribution substations (up to 132kV)
Detailed understanding of substation civil and electrical scope (Eskom Transmission or Distribution)
Detailed knowledge of Eskom Transmission or Distribution substation standards
Detailed knowledge and understanding of OEM and Eskom Quality Inspection and test Plans.
Ability to read and interpret electrical engineering drawings and schematics.
Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings.
Some experience of substation equipment testing, and commissioning will be advantageous.
Driver’sLicenceand own transport.
