Bloemendal Clinic is a licensed private mental health and substance use treatment facility dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care. We are seeking a dynamic Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) to lead our nursing team and ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care.
About the Role
As the Nursing Unit Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day management of the nursing unit, ensuring high standards of clinical care, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. You will play a key role in leading and supporting the nursing team while fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and compassionate care.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the nursing team.
- Ensure high-quality, holistic patient care.
- Oversee admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Maintain timely referrals and updated patient occupancy lists
- Monitor patient safety, risk management, and suicide watch protocols.
- Ensure medication management and documentation compliance.
- Coordinate staffing and maintain adequate shift coverage.
- Promote compliance with SANC regulations and relevant healthcare legislation.
- Conduct staff performance management, mentoring, and training.
- Drive continuous quality improvement through audits and clinical governance.
Minimum Requirements
- Registered Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Previous leadership or management experience in a healthcare setting.
- Experience in psychiatric or mental health nursing
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Sound knowledge of South African healthcare legislation and clinical governance.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and manage a fast-paced clinical environment.
