Cost & Management Accountant

Pexmart (Pty) Ltd, a well-established manufacturing business based in Rosslyn, is seeking a skilled and commercially minded Cost & Management Accountant to join its finance team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in product costing, financial analysis, management reporting, budgeting and operational decision-making. This position is suited to someone who enjoys digging beneath the numbers, identifying the real cost drivers, and turning financial information into useful business insight.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting schedules
- Develop and maintain accurate product costing models
- Analyse raw material, labour, overhead and production costs
- Calculate and monitor cost per kilogram, metre, product and production run
- Investigate manufacturing variances, including material usage, scrap, labour and overhead variances
- Perform gross profit and margin analysis by product, customer, order and division
- Assist with annual budgets, forecasts and cash-flow projections
- Monitor actual performance against budgets and explain significant variances
- Support pricing decisions and review the profitability of quotations and contracts
- Analyse inventory, work in progress and finished goods
- Assist with stock valuation and stock reconciliations
- Monitor slow-moving, obsolete and damaged inventory
- Prepare financial and operational dashboards for management
- Assist with month-end and year-end reporting processes
- Review operational expenditure and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Support the improvement of internal controls, procedures and reporting systems
- Work closely with production, procurement, sales and senior management
- Assist with ad hoc financial modelling, reporting and business analysis
Minimum requirements
- Relevant BCom degree in Cost and Management Accounting, Accounting, Finance or a related field
- At least 3 to 5 years’ relevant accounting experience
- Experience in product costing, management accounting and financial analysis
- Strong understanding of inventory, cost of sales and manufacturing processes
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience preparing budgets, forecasts and management reports
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and meet strict reporting deadlines
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
Advantageous
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with Sage 200 Evolution or a similar ERP system
- Experience with Power BI or other reporting tools
- Knowledge of standard costing, actual costing and manufacturing variances
- Exposure to production planning, inventory management and operational reporting
- Completed or ongoing professional accounting qualification
