Our Talent Team is looking for an individual to fill the role of Supply Planner with great attention to detail skills to join our Baking Operating Unit.
This position exists
To manage the overall supply planning process by planning, purchasing, and managing packaging and ingredients for both short- and long-term production, using the forward forecast and balancing it against supply constraints in order to optimise customer service at minimal cost.
The role will require working closely with other Supply planners, Production, Product development, Planning coordinators, MRP planners, Demand planners. Stores team and the Distribution team to proactively ensure that there are no interruptions in supply.
Functional Strategy into Action
- Facilitate integrated supply chain delivery by managing relationships and interaction with cross functional teams.
- Ensure the agreed SIA is implemented through delivery of own and team targets.
Supply and MRP Planning
- Good understanding of the demand planning and both short- and long-term forecasting with how it ties into P&I (packaging and ingredients) planning.
- Challenge the supply bias with the demand planner where you find the supply bias is consistently positive or negative in order to get the most accurate forward plan.
- Understanding of make to order as well as make to stock production processes and the impact on supply planning throughout the chain.
- Manage P&I stock levels based on available storage space, shelf life, safety stock levels and supplier lead times while keeping working capital to a minimum.
- Working closely with Supply planning manager and other departments as well as the customers to align peak period supply by signing of volume requirements, production schedules, frozen plans and P&I requirements.
- Using the forward production plan, develop the Material Requirements Plan in order to ensure that the forward packaging and ingredients requirements for a rolling 12-month forward plan are met. The first 13 weeks should be done in weekly buckets, thereafter in monthly buckets using the demand plan.
- Manage the MRP plan to ensure that the production plan can be met timeously by having sufficient quantities of packaging and ingredients on site in advance to meet the processing schedule.
- Expedite and/or postpone Purchase Orders where shortages or oversupply becomes evident.
- Re-plan requirements weekly and make adjustments as ad hoc changes get made to the processing schedule.
- Ensure that SAP Master Data for MRP is maintained accurately (eg: leadtimes, safety stock, MOQ, frequency of order).
Stock Management of Packaging, Ingredients and Other Externally Procured Products
- Manage planned stock levels of materials, both on site and at supplier, in line with agreed target levels.
- Work closely with sourcing team to manage supplier relationships
- Identify possible stock inaccuracies and work with stores to maintain stock accuracy levels.
- In conjunction with stores, ensure obsolete and quality compromised stocks are written off promptly.
- Responsible for communicating overstocks or shortages to the business and making recommendations to resolve situations.
Supplier and Stock Holding Management
- Where appropriate, have regular meetings with suppliers to identify and manage possible constraints and to address and relevant supplier rating scores.
- Resolve any supplier irregularities that may impact the forward production plan and escalate where these cannot be resolved. If it cannot be resolved, summarize the issue including why it happened, the business impact to either customer service levels or cost, and any options that can be considered to resolve the issue.
- Ensure NCRs are raised for any non-conformances and provide all supporting information to the sourcing teams for supplier reviews.
- Establish stock holding/safety stock for new suppliers based on their lead time and lot size requirements.
- Identify opportunities to reduce stock holding either on site or at suppliers based on improved order management and reliability of demand/supply.
- Work with sourcing to find opportunities to change the procurement process that will ultimately result in reduced price of materials, stock holding or minimised administration requirements.
Sales and Operations Planning / iCSE
- Develop the overall supply plan that will be used as input into the company wide S&OP / iCSE process.
- Provide input into the Supply Planning Meetings and Supply Chain Review on where the risks are for shortages, excess stocks and potential write-offs are for Packaging and Ingredients, as well as for Finished Goods.
- Identify gaps and opportunities and make appropriate recommendations to close these with the Supply Planning Manager.
- Be actively involved in preparing the necessary information for discussion at the Supply Chain Review meeting, specifically challenging or recommending changes to planning rates, frequency of planning, stock holding and raising all concerns with regards to packaging and ingredients where risk may occur
- Consolidate the supply planning packs required for the various S&OP meetings.
Innovation/Discontinuation
- Drive the coordination for delivery of innovation into the supply chain including attending the innovation meetings and representing the Supply Chain in these forums.
- Actively manage down stock being discontinued, including working with distribution to exit a sku. Write-offs to be kept to a minimum or entirely avoided if possible. This includes investigating opportunities to use at other sites, working with the R&D team to possibly work away in other products, selling back to supplier.
Supply Chain Reporting
- Update the scorecards with the relevant KPI's on a weekly/monthly basis and issue.
- Issue the agreed national outbound supply chain reports on a week/monthly basis as appropriate.
- Understand the variances against targets for key KPI's and provide explanations and corrective actions required.
- Generate the agreed weekly supply planning packs/reports and associated minutes.
- Attend and represent supply chain in daily and weekly operations meetings.
Outbound Supply Chain Project Coordination
- Be involved in projects that drive cost savings or system improvements (e.g.: SAP and other system tools, BIC).
Administration
- Oversee filing and safeguarding of records within area of responsibility.
- Compile ad hoc spreadsheets when required.
- Resolve creditors queries with the stores and creditors teams as required to ensure suppliers can be paid timeously.
Team Coordination and Development of Self
- Take ownership and accountability for tasks and activities and demonstrate effective self-management in terms of planning, prioritising and self-development.
- Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of work are consistently and accurately maintained.
- Inform relevant parties in the event of tasks or deadlines not met, the potential risks thereof and provide appropriate resolution.
- Support and drive the business core values.
- Manage colleagues and clients’ expectations and communicate appropriately.
Degree in Commercial or Supply Chain Or Supply Chain Diploma from SAPICS or APICS
3 - 5 years operational experience, preferably within the production planning environment within the food industry, but will also consider candidates with strong operations processing experience and/or who have worked closely with the supply planning team in other roles
