VACANCY: Senior/Experienced Quality Controller

ABOUT EDS SWITCHBOARDS
EDS Switchboards is an ISO 9001:2015-certified manufacturer of distribution boards, motor control centres, kiosks and custom switchgear, working to Siemens ATP and IEC 61439-1/2 standards. We're looking for an experienced Quality Controller who takes real ownership of the boards leaving our workshop — someone who can inspect independently, make the call, and stand behind it.
ABOUT THE ROLE
EDS Switchboards is seeking a meticulous and highly experienced QC Inspector to join our production team. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring that every board leaving our facility meets strict internal quality standards, client specifications, and statutory safety requirements. You will be the final gatekeeper of quality, overseeing the process from initial assembly through to final testing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct final QC inspections on distribution boards, MCCs, kiosks and panels against approved drawings, IEC 61439-1/2 and EDS quality standards
- Take ownership of pass/fail sign-off decisions and be accountable for what leaves the workshop
- Raise, log and follow up Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) through to close-out
- Work directly with Assembly, Wiring, Copper Manufacturing and Metal teams to correct issues at source, not just flag them
- Maintain accurate QC inspection records and checklists in line with the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System
- Drive down pre-dispatch snags and support close-out of the snag list
- Escalate recurring or systemic quality issues to the Production Manager and QMS Coordinator with clear evidence
- Mentor junior QC staff and assemblers on quality standards and common failure points
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Minimum 5 years' experience in QC within electrical panel building, switchboard manufacturing, or a closely related trade
- Solid working knowledge of IEC 61439-1/2 and low-voltage switchgear/assembly requirements
- Confident reading and working from electrical drawings, single-line diagrams and job cards
- A track record of making independent quality decisions — and owning the outcome
- Electrical/wireman trade qualification or equivalent hands-on experience
- Exposure to ISO 9001 quality systems and documentation is a strong advantage
- Reliable, own transport to Paarden Eiland, Cape Town
- High attention to detail, clear written record-keeping, and the confidence to hold the line under production pressure
