SportPesa operates in the online iGaming industry. This role supports the delivery, coordination, and growth of the company's payments infrastructure, testing and deployments.
The Role:
The Payments Integration Specialist is the link between SportPesa's payment aggregation platform and its payment service providers (PSPs). The role bridges technical delivery, vendor management, and product roadmap ownership to ensure new and reliable payment options ship on time and to spec.
The role holder collaborates with Product Managers, the payment aggregation platform team, PSPs, and internal engineering and operations teams to keep releases on track, resolve issues at pace, and deliver new and fast growing payment products for SportPesa:
- Owns and maintains the payment release roadmap, keeping releases tracking on time and to spec.
- Reviews payment gateway APIs and monitors friction points on deposit and withdrawal on and off-ramps.
- Documents technical requirements between the aggregator and PSPs and communicates them clearly to all parties.
- Acts as the day-to-day point of contact between the payment aggregator and payment service providers.
- Reads and interprets API documentation to confirm requirements are understood and correctly specified.
- Troubleshoots and tests releases to verify they behave as specified before go-live.
- Applies working knowledge of payment flow concepts such as authorization and settlement to daily troubleshooting.
- Applies PCI-DSS compliance basics when reviewing payment processes.
- Resolves production payment issues in a timeous manner.
- Delivers technical payment support as needed to relevant departments within the organisation.
- Identifies issues early, articulates them precisely, and drives the aggregator, PSP, or both to resolution.
- Maintains close relationships with PSPs to spot new products early and secure them for SportPesa first.
- Works closely with Product Managers to align timelines, surface dependencies, and keep delivery on track.
- Keeps internal stakeholders informed on release status, blockers, and upcoming payment capabilities.

The role suits a natural driver who keeps roadmaps, requirements, and timelines moving, with a strong grasp of the South African payments and iGaming landscape. The role holder is technically credible without needing to write code, comfortable holding their own in a technical conversation, and confident turning ambiguity into a documented, agreed requirement.

- Proven experience in a payments, integrations coordination, technical project or programme management, or vendor management role, ideally in fintech, iGaming, e-commerce, or another high-volume transactional environment.
- Strong technical literacy, with the ability to read and understand API documentation and hold their own in a technical conversation.
- Experience owning a delivery roadmap and working closely with Product Managers to keep releases on time and to spec.
- Confident troubleshooting and testing releases to verify behaviour against specification.
- A track record of managing external technical partners or vendors and holding them accountable to commitments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to turn a vague issue into a precise, actionable brief for two different technical teams.
- Highly organised, with the discipline to keep requirements, timelines, and dependencies visible and moving.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the payments landscape, including payment service providers, aggregation platforms, and how payment products come to market.
- Experience within the South African iGaming or fintech sector.
- Intellectual curiosity about how the payments landscape is evolving, including new providers, rails, and products.
