Career Growth Hospitality & Recruitment are looking for a bartender to join the team of a Luxury 5* Hotel along Cape Town's Atlantic Seaboard. A bartender is expected to provide an excellent guest drinking experience and to create classic and innovative drinks to please the guests.
Responsibilities:

Keep the bar consistently prepared for service, including ambiance and setup.

Welcome patrons in a polite and engaging manner.

Handle inventory and supply orders with Head of Department (HOD) approval to ensure adequate stock of bar and table supplies.

Understand wine theory and service practices.

Conduct daily wine and gin tastings if required.
-
Ensure the bar area is stocked with all necessary items, including beer, wine, spirits, paper products, straws, stirrers, condiments, and produce.

Maintain a tidy work area by managing trash, cleaning tables, washing glassware and utensils, mopping, sweeping, and performing deep cleaning on fridges.

Stay informed about food and beverage offerings to assist guests with queries and recommendations.

Monitor and manage beverage bar stock and mini bar inventory.

Perform daily opening and closing stock counts for the bar.

Provide daily updates on out-of-stock items to service staff and the manager on duty.

Ensure all service necessities are prepared, including gin trolley, garnishes, glassware, ice, wine, beverages, mixes, and other essentials.

Oversee the correct storage, handling, and inventory of delivered items and equipment.

Manage inventory to prevent any beverage items from reaching their expiry dates.

Work with waiters to ensure smooth operation of all areas.

Develop innovative wine and drink menus, and create new cocktails.

Ensure menus are in good condition and kept up-to-date.

Manage the tasting room, glassware area, and all bar equipment.

Support the wine steward in keeping the red and white wine cellar well-stocked and orderly.
Requirements and skills:
-
Three years of experience in a 5* or comparable setting.

Proven wine knowledge with relevant qualifications.

Skilled in operating standard beverage service equipment safely and effectively.

Physical capability to perform tasks such as walking up and down stairs.

Adaptability to changing situations.

Strong decision-making abilities.

Excellent customer service skills.

Effective verbal communication skills.

Competent in planning, problem-solving, and working as part of a team.

Ability to perform well under pressure.
Working Hours:
-
12:00 – 21:00 Midshift
-
14:30 – 23:00 – Late Shift
-
8 days off per month.
-
You may be required to work other shifts as per operational requirements.
