Job Title: AI Apps & Automation Engineer (Remote – South Africa)
Company: XDigitalSEO.com (Recruiting on behalf of a U.S.-based digital marketing firm)
Location: Remote (South Africa-based)
Working Hours: Align with U.S. business hours (afternoon to evening SAST)
Reports To: Operations Manager
Position Type: Full-time
About the Role
Hiring a full-time AI Apps & Automation Engineer to help build internal and client-facing systems using existing platforms, not custom software from scratch.
This person will work behind the scenes to build AI apps in Fusebase, create automations with n8n and similar tools, connect systems through APIs, MCP and webhooks, and build automation frameworks inside CRM platforms, primarily HighLevel and HubSpot.
This is a hands-on implementation role for someone who understands workflow logic, automation tools, APIs and CRM systems. The right person does not need to be a traditional software engineer, but they should be technically curious, comfortable using AI-assisted coding tools and capable of figuring out how modern platforms connect.
Responsibilities
● Build AI apps inside Fusebase using existing platform capabilities, templates, prompts and light code where needed.
● Create and maintain workflow automations using n8n or similar automation platforms.
● Connect systems using APIs, webhooks, MCP and third-party integrations.
● Build backend CRM automations, primarily inside HighLevel.
● Support automation frameworks for lead capture, routing, follow-up, pipeline management, client onboarding, reporting and lifecycle workflows.
● Translate Buzzworthy-designed workflows into working technical systems.
● Troubleshoot broken automations, failed API calls, data-sync issues and workflow errors.
● Document automations, app logic, workflows and technical processes so they can be reused and maintained.
● Use AI-assisted tools to speed up app creation, workflow development, testing and troubleshooting.
● Collaborate with internal team members but remain primarily focused on backend implementation rather than client-facing strategy.
Required Experience
● Hands-on experience building automations in n8n or a comparable platform.
● Strong understanding of workflow logic, triggers, actions, conditional paths and error handling.
● Working knowledge of APIs, webhooks, JSON and data mapping.
● Experience building automations inside CRM platforms.
● Ability to use light code when needed, such as JavaScript, Python or custom functions.
● Comfort using AI tools to build, test, troubleshoot and improve automations.
● Ability to follow a predetermined strategic workflow and turn it into a working system.
● Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn new platforms quickly.
Strongly Preferred
● HighLevel experience.
● Experience building AI apps, AI agents, AI workflows or prompt-based tools.
● Experience with MCP or tool-connected AI systems.
● Experience creating reusable automation templates or operational frameworks.
● Understanding of marketing, sales, RevOps or client lifecycle systems.
Bonus Experience
● Fusebase experience.
● HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho, Pipedrive or other CRM experience.
● Airtable, Google Sheets, databases or SQL experience.
● Experience working inside an agency, consulting firm or professional services business.
● Experience supporting internal teams with technical implementation.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a systems-minded builder who enjoys figuring out how platforms connect. They are not looking for a client-facing consulting role. They
are at their best when given a clear workflow, a business outcome and the tools needed to build the backend system.
They may not know every platform on day one, but if they have successfully built automations in n8n or similar tools, they should have the right foundation to learn Fusebase, MCP-based automations and existing internal frameworks quickly.
