The Canteen Coordinator & Staff Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious and well-balanced meals for our staff on duty each day. They are also responsible for ensuring that the canteen area remains clean, organized, and is welcoming. They also assist with mise en place for the next day’s service, coordinating kitchen handovers and maintaining overall canteen operations in line with the hotel's hygiene and quality standards. This important role helps to fuel our guest facing staff, making sure that they can deliver on the company purpose which is "to give our guests a complete experience and a perfect stay" .
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare balanced, tasty meals for all shifts; accommodate dietary needs when possible
Ensuring that all goods required for the next days meal is brought upstairs and prep is done to ensure that the morning team is able to make the meal effectively
Keep the canteen spotless and hygienic throughout the day
Communicate clearly with the next shift to ensure consistency in service and cleanliness
Maintain a presence in the kitchen and canteen; dish the meal to staff in the canteen
Ensure clean crockery and cutlery is available at all times, washing up when needed
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Basic culinary training or hospitality experience ideal
Matric certificate preferred
At least 1 year in a kitchen or food service environment
Experience preparing meals for groups (e.g., staff, schools, hospitals, etc.)
Good time management and ability to handle multiple responsibilities
Clear communication for handovers and team coordination
Clean, organized, and disciplined work habits
Positive attitude and team player mentality
Willingness to take initiative and stay active during the shift
Reliable and consistent with task completion
Respectful, honest, and cooperative with all team members
It is important that the candidate is able to work as part of a team and is a good cultural fit for The Royal Portfolio. South African citizenship is advantageous.
A valid work permit is essential if you are not in possession of a South African ID document.
