POSITION OVERVIEW
The Meter Installation Project Manager is responsible for the end-to-end planning, execution, and delivery of utility metering projects across electricity and water services. This role oversees installation, commissioning, auditing, and system integration of metering infrastructure while ensuring compliance, quality control, and accurate billing outcomes.
The position requires strong technical expertise in metering systems, project management capability, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including field technicians, engineers, software developers, and client stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Planning & Execution
- Manage the full lifecycle of metering installation projects from site audit to commissioning and handover.
- Coordinate project kick-offs, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Ensure projects are delivered within scope, schedule, and financial constraints.
- Lead site rollout strategies for new installations, upgrades, and retrofits.
- Compile project proposals, quotations, and cost estimates for clients.
Metering Installation & Commissioning
- Oversee installation, configuration, calibration, and maintenance of electricity and water meters.
- Verify meter compatibility with AMR, AMI, and IoT systems.
- Ensure correct meter allocation, setup, and integration into billing systems.
- Conduct commissioning and ensure all data flows and communications are functional.
- Supervise field teams and contractors during installation activities.
Technical Site Audits & Compliance
- Conduct and supervise detailed technical audits of new and existing sites, including:
o Electrical and water reticulation layouts
o Single-line diagrams
o Meter identification and counts
o Distribution board (DB) mapping
- Compile comprehensive audit and compliance reports.
- Ensure all installations meet regulatory standards, municipal by-laws, and industry best practices.
- Perform meter accuracy testing and maintain calibration compliance.
Data Integrity, Quality Assurance & Billing Accuracy
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of metering data across all systems.
- Implement quality control processes for:
o Data imports and meter configurations
o Tariff application and billing accuracy
o Consumption validation and anomaly detection
- Develop and apply automated validation tools to identify data discrepancies, usage spikes, and system errors.
- Work closely with finance and billing teams to ensure correct recoveries and reporting.
System Integration & Technical Development
- Support or lead integration of metering systems with software platforms and databases.
- Collaborate with IT and development teams to enhance system performance and automation.
- Oversee data integration from multiple sources including IoT gateways, AMR systems, and municipal feeds.
- Contribute to system improvements, reporting tools, and dashboard development.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients on metering projects.
- Manage client relationships, expectations, and communication throughout project delivery.
- Present technical findings, reports, and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to SLA commitments and client-specific requirements.
- Provide post-implementation support and follow-up on performance and savings outcomes.
Reporting, Analysis & Performance Monitoring
- Analyse metering and consumption data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Produce detailed reports on:
o Consumption trends
o Variance and recovery analysis
o Financial impacts and ROI
- Monitor project KPIs, performance metrics, and operational efficiencies.
- Ensure timely delivery of analysis reports in line with agreed deadlines.
Team Leadership & Coordination
- Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams including technicians, engineers, analysts, and developers.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to field and operational staff.
- Promote a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

- Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory frameworks
