Job Purpose
To inspect, diagnose, repair, service, and maintain all company vehicles and mobile equipment in a safe, reliable, and roadworthy condition. The Vehicle Mechanic ensures preventative maintenance schedules are adhered to, minimizes vehicle downtime, and complies with all legal, manufacturer, and company safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Preventative Maintenance
- Perform scheduled servicing on all company vehicles and mobile equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance according to maintenance schedules.
- Replace worn or defective components before failure occurs.
- Maintain service records for every vehicle.
Repairs and Fault Diagnosis
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, steering, suspension, and braking faults.
- Repair petrol and diesel engines.
- Repair transmissions, clutches, differentials, axles, and driveline components.
- Repair cooling, fuel, exhaust, ignition, charging, and starting systems.
- Repair vehicle air-conditioning systems where qualified.
Vehicle Inspections
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections.
- Ensure all vehicles remain roadworthy.
- Prepare vehicles for licensing and roadworthy inspections.
- Test drive vehicles following repairs where authorised.
Fleet Maintenance
- Maintain company cars, bakkies, trucks, trailers, forklifts, and other mobile equipment.
- Attend to emergency vehicle breakdowns.
- Reduce vehicle downtime through effective planning and repairs.
Workshop Administration
- Complete maintenance reports and job cards.
- Record spare parts used.
- Maintain service histories.
- Report recurring faults and recommend improvements.
Spare Parts Management
- Identify spare parts requirements.
- Assist with ordering vehicle components.
- Maintain minimum stock levels of frequently used parts.
- Ensure proper storage of tools and spares.
Health, Safety and Housekeeping
- Follow Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
- Wear prescribed PPE.
- Maintain a clean and organised workshop.
- Safely dispose of waste oils, filters, tyres, batteries, and hazardous materials.
Continuous Improvement
- Recommend improvements to vehicle reliability.
- Assist with fleet cost reduction initiatives.
- Support breakdown investigations and root cause analysis.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Qualified Motor Mechanic
- Valid driver's licence
Experience
- 5+ years' post-trade experience maintaining commercial vehicles.
- Experience with petrol and diesel engines.
- Experience repairing trucks, forklifts, and light commercial vehicles is advantageous.

Working Conditions
- Workshop environment with exposure to grease, oil, fuel, noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.

Pay: R7 365,80 - R24 597,07 per month
