This partnership has culminated in the establishment of Envusa Energy Pty Limited a South African company whose purpose is to develop, build and operate renewable energy assets in the Southern African Region, to support the Anglo American Business Units in the region to achieve carbon-neutral electricity.
Job Description
-Envusa Energy are seeking a Legal Specialist who will be pivotal in providing local advice to leadership and support the legal function of Envusa Energy. Legal officers often manage the legal affairs of a company by drafting contracts and ensuring that other documents comply with provincial and federal laws. As this position requires direct work with clients and manage other employees in the legal department, abilities such as research, communication, and leadership are essential.
Core Responsibilities (amongst others):
- Act as the general council for Envusa Energy to support the development of the new company by identifying key legal risks and opportunities.
- Draft and review strategic contracts and partnerships to align with Envusa Energy strategy.
- Work to protect intellectual property assets.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the management team and provide advice on legal matters.
- Ensure adherence to governance, risk and compliance framework and government regulations by collaborating to develop processes, procedures and strategies for managing legal risk.
- Provide advice and secretarial services to the Corporate Leaders and Envusa Board to ensure Envusa is compliant with legal requirements while providing legal advice on various business aspects.
- Partner with leaders and HR to resolve employment issues.
- Manage the provision of legal services by external lawyers and law firms in a cost-effective manner.
- Identify any opportunities for improved cost management and either address these or raise them with your manager as appropriate.

Qualifications

-Graduate in Law or related discipline.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification, ideally an MBA or equivalent
- Ability to deal with complex and inter-dependent legal agreements.
- Experience in startup-specific areas like intellectual property, corporate law, labor law, and securities law, among others. They should be familiar with the legal requirements in South Africa (UK and France desirable)
- Understanding of governance and corporate legal requirements such as Companies Act
