Role Overview
The Prep Mechanic & Line Chef is responsible for preparing ingredients and home meals / deli items, maintaining kitchen flow and high hygiene standards, supporting production, and executing dishes to Fresh Earth standards. This role suits someone organised, reliable, and passionate about wholesome food.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily preparation of ingredients
- Assist with production of foods
- Maintain consistency in taste, texture, and presentation
- Accurately follow recipes
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
- Support the line during service: plating, heating, assembling, and dispatching orders
- Uphold hygiene, food safety, and cleanliness standards (HACCP awareness beneficial)
- Work closely with the Head Chef and kitchen team to ensure smooth workflow
- Manage prep lists and stock rotation (FIFO)
- Report equipment issues or maintenance needs promptly
- Contribute to a positive, respectful, and communicative team environment
Minimum Requirements
- 3+ years experience in a professional kitchen (prep, line cook, or similar role)
- South African citizen or valid legal working papers
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team
- Ability to follow recipes and maintain consistency
- Physically able to handle a busy kitchen environment
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work under pressure
- Knowledge of health‑focused or gluten‑free cooking is an advantage (not required)
