Greenway Farms is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Fitter & Turner Trainee to join our Maintenance Department. This opportunity is ideal for individuals interested in pursuing a career in mechanical engineering and maintenance. The successful candidate will participate in a structured workplace training programme, gaining practical and theoretical experience in the installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of mechanical equipment within a Packhouse environment.
The trainee will work under the guidance of experienced artisans and the Senior Millwright while developing technical skills, engineering knowledge, and safe working practices.
- Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science
- N2 Engineering Studies (Mechanical) will be advantageous
- No previous experience required
- Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles will be beneficial
- Assist with planned and preventative maintenance activities on mechanical equipment.
- Support artisans and the Senior Millwright during breakdown repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Assist with dismantling, repairing, assembling, and installing mechanical components and machinery.
- Lubricate equipment and replace worn mechanical parts under supervision.
- Participate in fault-finding and troubleshooting of production machinery.
- Assist with testing and commissioning equipment after repairs and maintenance.
- Operate engineering workshop equipment safely under supervision.
- Perform basic fitting, turning, machining, and fabrication activities as part of the training programme.
- Participate in preventative maintenance inspections and equipment servicing.
- Complete maintenance checklists and report damaged or worn equipment.
- Assist with shutdown maintenance and special maintenance projects.
- Comply with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements, Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures, and company safety standards.
- Adhere to Packhouse Food Safety and Hygiene requirements at all times.
- Attend all required theoretical training, practical assessments, and workplace learning activities.
- Complete and maintain training logbooks, maintenance records, and other required documentation accurately.
- Learn to interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and maintenance procedures.
- Maintain workshop cleanliness and ensure tools and equipment are stored correctly.
- Report completed work and training progress to the Senior Millwright.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, initiative, and a commitment to continuous learning and development.
