Full Job Description

A professional carpenter skilled tradesperson who works with wood and other construction materials to build, install, repair, and maintain structures and fixtures. Duties and responsibilities typically include:

Reading and Interpreting Plans

Study blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
Determine project requirements, measurements, and materials needed.

Measuring and Cutting Materials

Accurately measure, mark, and cut wood, plywood, and other materials.
Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.

Constructing Structures

Build frameworks for buildings, walls, floors, roofs, and staircases.
Assemble and install structural components according to specifications.

Installing Fixtures and Fittings

Install doors, windows, cabinets, shelves, partitions, and other wooden fixtures.
Ensure proper alignment, fit, and functionality.

Repair and Maintenance Work

Repair damaged wooden structures and fixtures.
Replace worn or defective components.
Perform routine maintenance to extend the lifespan of installations.

Ensuring Quality Workmanship

Check completed work for accuracy and quality.
Make adjustments and corrections when necessary.
Maintain high standards of craftsmanship.

Following Safety Regulations

Comply with workplace health and safety rules.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

Material and Tool Management.

Select suitable materials for projects.
Maintain, clean, and store tools and equipment properly.

Project Planning and Time Management

Estimate labor and material requirements. Complete tasks within project deadlines
