Job Description
We are seeking a Specialist Winder Engineer to manage, maintain, and optimise our mine winder systems, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all heavy-duty hoisting equipment and critical electrical machinery integral to deep‑level mining activities.
In this role, you will lead a specialist team to ensure maximum operational safety, strict legal compliance, and minimal downtime. If you have 10 to 15 years of hands-on experience and hold a GCC, we want to hear from you.
What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities)
· Lead Winder Operations: Manage specialized commissioning, maintenance, and fault-finding across all shaft hoisting systems.
· Ensure Safety & Compliance: Serve as the technical authority to meet all requirements of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA).
· Technical Maintenance: Conduct Level One Audits, execute dynamic brake tests, and manage rope changes and headgear inspections.
· Team Leadership: Supervise the Winder Specialist team, manage engineering budgets, and mentor junior artisans and apprentices.
· Strategic Planning: Oversee preventative maintenance schedules for high/low voltage reticulation, hydraulics, and variable speed drives.
What We Are Looking For (Requirements)
· Experience: Strictly 10 to 15 years of experience in commissioning, repairing, and troubleshooting mine winders.
· Education: Degree or BTech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or an N6/S4 Diploma with completed P1/P2 modules).
· Certification: Valid Government Certificate of Competency (GCC Mines and Works) is essential.
· Leadership: Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory, managerial, or project leadership role.
· Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of analogue/digital variable speed drives, PLC integration, ropes, and attachments.
· License: Valid Code 8 driver's license and own transport.
· Passport: Valid Passport with more than 6 months
