Position Overview
We are seeking a highly competent Design/Project Engineer with solid experience in the mineral processing industry, responsible for developing technical designs, performing equipment selections, generating process documentation, and supporting project execution. The role requires strong engineering fundamentals, practical plant knowledge, and the ability to translate process requirements into robust design solutions.
Key Responsibilities

Process & Mechanical Design
-
Develop and refine Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and contribute to Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

Perform equipment sizing and selection for crushers, screens, scrubbers, conveyors, pumps, cyclones, thickeners, flotation units, DMS plants, etc.

Conduct pump sizing calculations, slurry transport design, NPSH checks, and pipeline hydraulic calculations.

Support preparation of Mass Balances, equipment lists, process datasheets, and specification documents.

Coordinate with process metallurgists to ensure designs meet metallurgical performance requirements.

Engineering Calculations & Analysis

Execute structural, mechanical, and process calculations relevant to mineral processing equipment and plant layout.

Apply engineering judgement to ensure reliability, maintainability, and operational efficiency of designed systems.

Review vendor documentation for technical compliance.

3D Modelling & Drafting Support

Collaborate with the drawing office to generate 3D models, layouts, pipe routing, and detailed fabrication drawings.

Ensure designs comply with internal standards, best practices, and applicable South African/Namibian engineering codes.

Project Development & Execution Support

Provide engineering input during concept, feasibility, and detailed design phases.

Support construction and commissioning teams with technical guidance and design clarifications.

Participate in design reviews, HAZOP workshops, and risk assessments.

Documentation & Reporting

Prepare design reports, engineering justifications, technical notes, and equipment specifications.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date engineering records throughout the project lifecycle.
Minimum Requirements
-
B.Eng / BSc Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Metallurgical).

2–5 years’ experience in the mineral processing or mining plant design environment.

EPCM or OEM experience advantageous.

Proficiency in process engineering tools, pump sizing software, and MS Office.

Familiarity with AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar CAD packages (experience with 3D plant design systems advantageous).

Strong understanding of mineral processing equipment and plant operations.
