Great company for career development
As an IT company my role was to provide support to different clients on a platform level. Daily tasks included monitoring and ensuring our servers and applications were working. Calls logged by clients needed to be resolved as per SLA's. Planning changes that include either improving or maintenance of our servers,routers etc. I started as a desktop engineer onsite supporting a single client, I often moved from one client to a different as per business requirement. This assisted greatly as i was able to equip myself with knowledge and setups by different clients. I was promoted to second line engineer to support multiple clients using different systems. I had already had an understanding of most clients systems which made the transition simple. In the IT environment there is no limit to learning, as technology develops and there is a need for someone needs to either install or support the technology. My experience I have learned new skills but there is still more to be learned before I call myself an IT professional. Management and co workers are always willing to assist and mentor. The hardest part or most frustrating is that in an IT environment it is often a 24 7 365 days of the year job. So you have to be able to make yourself available at anytime to assist when needed. Without a challenge wont come satisfaction, mine comes from solving problems that we encounter and learning and documenting solutions for other engineers should the problem arise again.

Outsourced (from Standard bank to Dimension Data)
At first glance moving from the banking industry to a more refined field of Information Technology in the form of a I.T. company excited me to my core, dispite it being under the outsourcing banner. While responsible for the day to day desktop support at the bank, moving to a I.T. company would both increase my knowledge and skills in my profession and also give me a wider range of choice to advance in my I.T. carreer. However, that being said i frowned at my new role in the new company as in my view it was a step backwards in my carreer, moving from a senior desktop engineer to a service desk technician. Dispite being the only senior engineer on the team & having the privilegde of training and leading the rest of the team with my skills and knowledge i was unable to endure the harsh & regit atmosphere of a service desk and coupled with a poor management methodology increased my feeling of stagnation and hindrance to growth in my carreer. The Overall atmosphere of the company as a whole seemed great, and ex colluegues who were outsourced too seemed to excell in the various "other" departments they were placed in where i longed to be part of such great teams. I now seek a company that can give me just that: an open minded management methodology who can enhance the growth and potential of tallented individuals such as myself. Productive and Fun
It's a great company to work for, especially if you are permanent. There are growth chances, they have a system that allow employees to be compensated and monitor their performance annually and employees can further their studies online through their university. I have learnt to come up with solutions for each task/project. When reporting, I had to report on status progress of the project and issues/challenges that I encountered and what I did to solve them or how am I planning to solve them. Have also learnt to present my monthly reports infront of team members. Had two categories of co-workers. The Departmental ( which were also clients) as well as the one's from DD ( my team) and enjoyed working with them all. As much as I had major project, but was dealing basically with day to day issues and my typical day would be, when I come in the morning and nothing is running, when electricity went down, say previous night, alarms doing their thing, server is down, no connection what soever, including telephone lines, the toilet paper man hasnt arrived yet and everyone is telling me there is not toilet paper in the bathrooms, and there is a big/ important meeting that is supposed to starting, someone has parked in someone else's parking bay( All happening within the same morning). There wasn't really the hardest job. I enjoyed the inter action, meeting different people and liked to be everyone's life saver. Just didn't like when I didn't have the necessary resources to do my job.

Professional, complex yet fun place to work in
This is an excellent place to work in as it exposes one to many complex ICT problems and solutions at the same time, working with all departments in the organisation to ensure client satisfaction is a priceless reward and a motivation for any client facing employees. The culture of team work, sharing ideas, knowledge and resources in order to deliver the desired goals and objectives is one i would makes ones job easier to do. Working with people of different age groups, backgrounds, cultures, experience is the most enjoyable part of the job, as you are exposed to different experiences and different behavioural patterns on a daily bases. The most challeging part of the job would have to be working with different departments and senior individuals in those environment, needless to say that as a young african woman is this space one has constantly has to prove themselves and work extra hard to achieve objectives. As a young south african woman who easily adapts to change, I am constantly looking at ways to grow and enhance my career and experience, and one of many ways to do this is to work in different environments, be exposed to different working environments and management styles, different IT products and solutions offered in the industry.

Currently studing SQL database developement in 2012. My interests are furthering my studies in MCSE- Microsoft Solution Expert - in Business Intelligence. Addionally i have been accredited with designation from the Chartered Institute of IT professionalism.(ICITP) My ultimate goal is a career in SQL as my interests and inclinations lead me to believe that I can excel in this field. Work place environment
Where as productivity is concerned each and every individual is quite productive on a day to day basis. Productivity is key... Communication barrier at Dimension Data iiNet is very poor and they lack communication. Feels as if there are not enough hours during the day, However you always learning new things on a day to day basis, whether it be through a new employee being employed to system navigation and new products. Management gets along with staff, but also tends to get very relaxed, it's also about who you know within this space at the company. This does not help that individual grow nor accomplish things on there own. Some of them lack people skills. Culture at work has died out, it's no longer what it use to be. All that happens is arriving at work, doing what you need to and leave when your shift ends. My hardest part is having to instill values that no longer exists. Most enjoyable thing about my job, is having to adapt to different personalities but also being able to educate and train the new people coming into the business.

Productive and Fun at workplace
A lovely company to work for. A typical day various depending on what one was doing. AS the Accounts Payable Manager, I would spend 30% of the day in Meetings with superiors, same line line managers(Colleagues) or with my my team. 50% executing my deliverables and 20% managing and guiding the team. My role changed when I moved to Financial Accountant position, that is when I wanted to be closer to the Business Unit and understand the business from the financial Management perspective. The role is 90% operational and 105 attending meetings. DD ha s a very strict and yet flexible management style, Managers want the job done and deadlines met. The workplace culture is that you need to run you division as your own company but obviously consult yours superiors on important matters that has financial implications to the bigger picture. I learned a lot both as the Accounts Payable Manager and as the Financial Accountant.

"It's a calling"
During my past 25 years it is evident that Contact Centres and Customer experience are my passion. I have occupied roles from agent to GM Customer Centricity and account manager. The learnings at Hollard and University of Pretoria will be very applicable to this role. It is very clear that the customer dictates how and when they will be serviced. We know there is a very clear move to the digital channels. To have a dedicated role for customer complaints ( maybe customer feedback) is critical. Every piece of information you receive behind the mask of a complaint is vital information on how to improve your business operations. There is no better feeling when you can "save" a client and retain that business. My experience has taught me very well what works and what does not. Customers are your business and without very clear planning they will dictate your daily events. With a proper plan in place - you will know how to deal with all customer complaints / feedback.

My experience was great as I developed in many areas servicing various multinational corporations and provided their technology and support requirements. I learned many things while supporting these high touch clients and vendors, most notably the importance of communication and collaboration on projects of all scales. A typical workday consist of Business Development procatices through contact with your Technology Partners or OEM's to position Dimension Data as a VAR of choice, as well as meetings developed or set with Multi-National or Global clients to disucss their Technology Infrastructure or Services requiremetns and Dimension Data's capabilities to deliver those requirements. I learned more about International Business, challenges and obstacles that we overcame, as well as the acumen to work with various organizations and cultures. We were a start-up group in the Western Region of the United States and management along with the client management staff were all new to the organization and processes. Unfortunately, we did not have the tenured leader in the environment to lead the direction of the group the Dimension Data way. However, my direct manager was very well thought out in his leadership and ownership of oour team. My co-workers were a solid mix of varied experiences in the industry, and all had a solid success track record in their various careers. They were hard working and goal driven. Great all-around people. The hardest part of the job was that the resources needed to deliver on the various projects we were able to secure were not necessarily available and Dimension Data was not always able to deliver them. Silo centric and challenging to work as a team towards real outcomes
The company has 3x general sales team "commit" meetings and 2x internal Line of Business meetings to confirm deals closing for the current month as well as at least 2x mandatory webex "product update' conferences and at least 2x 'partner' product/ services presentations every week. Also, a compulsory meeting and presentation with the 'opportunity review board' for every deal worth >$100K GP and 3 formal stages for sale pricing approval. As such, a typical day can be quite frustrating and consists of trying to fit in customer and opportunity development/ close time around at least 3x mandatory internal meetings. Thanks to its strong Cisco re-seller background and a recent acquisition spree, DD has some good IT solution offerings in the Connectivity, Cloud and Real time threat management space, The senior leadership and management team comprise resources that have been with DD for over 15 years, so do not have the wider perspective and cross pollination skills that comes from working with other companies that helps with achieving the agility and flexibility demanded by the current customer base. DD has some very smart, experienced and skilfull resources who are a pleasure to associate with as co-workers. Enjoyable project work but there are management issues!
I enjoyed carrying out the project work, which had me travelling locally to client sites. I was working with remote engineers, some who were in other states/ or even countries, and they were all great to get along with and knowledgeable and helpful. When not carrying out project work, I was in the local office, either preparing for upcoming projects or online training. I was also sent to many vendor training/ and presentations. The other engineers in the office were great to work with, and friendly, so we all frequently spoke to one another while in the office. There are managerial problems, even to the extent where staff members are bullied. Working hours became increasingly long, with many out of hours working weekend. The office is dull, and depressing. Not enough support is offered to the Engineers, not locally in the office anyway. Engineers are overworked and over utilised, with very little appreciation for the work that they do. The office and the work slowly drained the life out of me, and other Engineers! After leaving the company, I had very little confidence left due to the managements feedback to my work (all of which was praised by the Project Managers!). I have spoken to other Engineers while working for this company, and since leaving, who have all experienced the same. This really needs to be reviewed.
