When you start with the company you get what feels like a 5 minute crash course on their programs and processes. You will need to be a very quick learner to avoid making mistakes, and when you do, be prepared to take responsibility for them. There is no in-depth training, it's sink or swim!

Employees are expected to start early and work late. All fair and well if the company actually pays overtime, but you are expected to work before/after hours for free. Lunch breaks and after hours consist of catching up on the immense workload there is to deal with due to being short staffed. Staff are expected to do more than one person's job, as the company does not like to pay any extra salaries.  

For this reason, you would need to be at work come rain or shine, in sickness and in health. Taking a day off work, whether sick or holiday will result in a massive backlog of work to catch up on. From the moment you arrive in the morning until the second you leave you will be drowning in work, to the point where feeling like you're about to have a mental breakdown becomes part of your daily routine. Over the weekends you are simply too exhausted (on both a mental and physical level) to actually enjoy your 2 days of freedom. Management at head office is cliquey, not shy to show favoritism and not all all supportive to the rest of the staff. If you voice your opinion about the workload (even though ultimately their customer's suffer the consequences) you are told to suck it up or leave. 

You will only find work culture at the Durban branch. People are under a lot of stress at the other two branches and are generally just too unhappy to experience "work culture" of any kind. The company did recently start having Christmas functions, but unless you work at the Durban branch, don't expect to have too much fun. And certainly don't expect much of a Christmas bonus, you will bend over backwards all year round and then for some reason be surprised when you don't get your worth when your December pay check comes through. 

The best part of the job is working with people who understand what you are going through, the non-favorites that support each other and build friendships. Regardless of how stressful it is, the hardest part is not being appreciated. You can be the most dedicated, hard working employee and it will go unnoticed and certainly unappreciated. There is a high staff turn-around due to the level of stress experienced and overall environment. Working for United Business Solutions is not for the weak!

A typical day at United Business is terrible, the owners and senior management (especially at H/O in Johannesburg) like to manage by fear, they believe that if you are always scared that you are going to lose your job, you are more productive. The owners and senior management have zero people skills and are only interested in making money with no consideration for their staff and no concept of customer service. The staff turnover is very high and the work atmosphere is depressing. The goal-posts are always moving. Hard-working staff are not appreciated and you are spoken to in the most disgusting manner (including swearing) by the owners and senior management, depending on their moods. Salaries are market-related but it is frowned upon if you actually take a lunch break or don't work extra hours, without additional pay. The politics and back-stabbing in this company, especially from senior management, are unbelievable. Be very wary of working for this company, they will make you feel worthless and doubt yourself that you are able to get a better job with a company that actually treats their staff with an acceptable level of respect. The second most enjoyable day of my job was the day I resigned and the most enjoyable day was the day that I left the toxic environment. When speaking to existing staff, most staff admit that they are bitterly unhappy and are actively looking for a new job. When interviewing you, they sweet-talk you and sell you a job that is nothing at all like they promise.

United Business Solutions is 1 of the worst places I have ever worked. The back stabbing by staff members is demoralizing and the blatant favoritism shown by senior management is a stern reminder that your effort is appreciated. 

Hours are long, pay is awful and your mental health will deteriorate almost immediately. There are some positives. There are certain peers who honestly try and make a difference not only to clients but to you as person. One peer (who I will not name) was an angel and he went out of his way to help wherever he could.  He had an enormous amount of work which made him even more special. Management of course called him lazy which again is a reminder that if they do not like you your effort will go unnoticed regardless of how they say it does.

United Business Solutions is by the worst place I have worked and I encourage job seeks to stay away. For the sake your mental health and dignity.

A typical day at United Business is a stressful one. You will feel like you are about to have a mental breakdown almost on a second by second basis. Frankly it's probably one of the most toxic places to work in. Pay is dismal, work load is outrageous and your management is hostile. You will be walking on egg shells everyday of the week. 

I struggle to find the words to describe United Business. Quite frankly it is disgusting to say the least.  

However I will say this, if you have no other employment opportunities then settle in and work as hard as you can. If you you do however have options and for some reason you are leaning towards then stop. Please put United Business at the bottom of your list. Nothing good will come dedicating your time here.

I was head hunted by this company, since I was looking for a career advancement, I accepted the job offer.
First day I arrived at the company, no one new why I was there, even the owner of the company started telling me irrelevant things that has nothing to do with what I was hired for.

I ended up doing things that had nothing to do with what I was hired for, the things a qualified person in a field wouldn’t do.

I worked for that company for less that a year and left, I can confidently say that given a chance I wouldn’t even consider going back to that terrible company.

A typical day would be sending emails, ordering stock, co-ordinating events, stock take and customer co-ordination. Service control and warehouse control. I learnt many new computer skills as well as industry specific skills. My management were helpful and informative. I worked with great people who were always willing to help and go the extra mile. The hardest part of my job was juggling all my responsibilities to the best of my ability. I loved dealing with customers and seeing the results of my hard work.

I worked at UBS for many years in sales and it was one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had. The online marketing, lead generation, sales support and back of office support is of the highest standard. You are able to focus purely on making sales while the company supports you through every step. Management has a great system in place that creates a healthy and extremely productive working environment

I joined UBS in a junior position and within a year I was promoted, they look after their staff and help you grow within the business. The management and owners are hands on and very supportive. The CEO has an “open door” management concept and he is very approachable. I would recommend this company to anyone who is looking to work hard and advance their careers

I worked at United Business Solutions for many years and it was by far the most enjoyable working environment I have experienced. The management and owners drive their employees for a high standard of work with support and assistance to ensure you succeed. They have a low employee turnover with many staff members having been with the company for years.

From the moment you walk in the phone is ringing. It hardly stops. My inbox will have over 200 emails every day. I will work until 11pm every night. Weekends I will be catching up on un-urgent emails and queries. The company doesn't have any Christmas party's or any other functions that they do. I was still efficient,friendly and helpful to all the clients I dealt with.
