Specsavers operates as a franchise, and unfortunately my experience was heavily shaped by very poor management at the branch I worked for.
Frontline staff were expected to work extremely hard in a demanding customer-facing environment, yet there was no recognition, appreciation, or fair compensation for the work done. As a frontline receptionist, I earned less than the cleaner, which was openly known and extremely demoralising given the level of responsibility, pressure, and customer interaction involved in the role.
Management consistently made staff feel as though they were underperforming, regardless of effort or results. Instead of offering support or constructive guidance, concerns were dismissed, and employees were regularly told that if they were unhappy, they were free to leave. This created a negative and insecure working atmosphere where staff felt replaceable rather than valued.
The only positive aspect of the job was the team itself. Colleagues supported one another and shared the same frustrations, which helped make the environment bearable. Unfortunately, a strong team cannot compensate for poor leadership and lack of basic respect for employees.
Customer service can be a rewarding career when management values and supports their staff. Sadly, this franchise failed to do so, and for that reason I would not recommend it as a place to work.

My Foundation of Leadership stems from a hands-in development and leadership background along with strong administrative and implementation experience. I possess leadership skills from within numerous functional areas that include Call Centres and administration of business.
I effectively employ first-rate collaboration and consulting skills to cam the trust and confidence of staff, management and clients repeatedly, maintaining open channels of communication. In addition, I have effectively led testing, automation, feature enhancement and integration among countless other responsibilities in consulting and internal projects. My track record illustrates that aspect of successful performance over the majority of my working career. This is a trend that I intend to continue long into the future.

Spec-Savers Richards Bay was a privilege to work at. The employees and management were very caring and hardworking. They made the atmosphere of the workplace pleasurable.
The manager was very focused on personal growth and development of each employee.
The environment of the workplace was very dynamic and provided encouraging challenges daily.
The hardest part of the job was ensuring that a customer was completely satisfied and taken care of from consultation until product delivery due to the fact that eye care can be unpredictable.
I learnt many new skills especially those in customer relations, versatility among people and how to work under demanding pressure.

it was a productive nice work enviroment to work at,it included making phone calls,scheduling appointments,following up on patients and their files and doing quatations and invoices.which was a great experience for me.working with customers and learning about how medical aids work was an exciting thing.the most difficult thing when it came to the job,is the management did not treat us well,conditions where not favourable to staff but them.

Working as part of a team to support all layers of management.
Responsibilities include day-to-day office tasks and also covering the reception area.

On the job I learned the ability to multitask, strong communication skills, Interpersonal skills and excellent spelling and computer skills.

Obstacles in this position mainly consisted of problem solving, which was dealt with on a professional level.

The enjoyable parts of this position was the opportunity to gain working experience as well as learning along the way.

A typical day at work consists of checking the diary and booking in of patients. I also do debt control and thus do most of my medical aid follow ups on outstanding debt and incorrect claims. I also capture all medical aid payments. 

I have a great relationship with my co-works which consists of 10 ladies and 5 men.  The hardest part of my job is having patience with some of the client service staff at medical aids.  The most enjoyable part is the interaction with patients. The variety of people that I get to meet is awesome!!

Working in Specsavers Westwood has allowed me to experience the working of an office environment. My main job was customer interpersonal interaction and this taught me how to interact with people on a professional level as well as how to sell a service and product to a diverse market. I trust the lesson and knowledge I have gained at Specsavers will allow me the opportunity to add value to the next company I am employed in.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There is constantly pressure to meet monthly targets.


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is very warm and friendly. The work culture could do with some improvement.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Lots of human interaction and decision making.

It was great learning all the things about optical assistant duties. Leasing with clients, phoning the medical aid to confirm benefits and assisting clients that walk in with issues. The hardest part of the job was to teach a person how to use contact lenses and how to take care of it. The most enjoyable part was helping them choose their frames and seeing how happy they were when walking out.

Love the customer's and I know Make them happy

I can run the store and I can do everything so it's a little stressful

Staff can get at each other sometimes we won't talk to each other but when it comes to work related we a team q
