I am a project manager with 22 years’ experience in maintenance, production, engineering and project management fields. During this period I gained extensive experience in all stages of BD&I from pre-conceptual through FEED to installation and commissioning. Some of the project includes the installation of Hydrogen compressors, Gouda solidification machines and Medium wax spray towers. I established the ability to manage people effectively by leading and motivating teams from production, maintenance at Sasol wax Solidification plant, as well multidiscipline project teams on various projects. Through working with customers both internally and externally I have developed communications skills enabling me to understand the true requirements of my stakeholders. I have the ability take the customers requirement for a project and convert it into detail work breakdown structure to be used for executing the project on time within budget with quality levels exceeding the expectations of my customers. I am a deadline orientated, driven, self-motivated pro-active thinker that can work independently or as part of a team supporting the drive for One Sasol. I also have the ability to do my own work planning and I am not afraid to make educated decisions based on available information and take accountability for the decisions I made. Throughout the duration of my career I enjoy learning new skills and sharing my-know how with my fellow colleges in a mentoring capacity.

my typical day as a Digital Technician at Sasol involves monitoring and maintaining digital systems that support plant and mining operations. The most challenging aspect of the role is diagnosing and resolving complex faults on critical systems under time pressure, especially when production is affected. Working in different environmental conditions and coordinating with multiple stakeholders to restore systems can also be demanding.

The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job
The most enjoyable part of the job is solving technical challenges and restoring critical systems to operation. It is rewarding to see the direct impact of my work on the reliability and efficiency of the plant and mining operations. Learning new technologies and expanding my technical expertise also makes the role fulfilling and engaging.

-	I studied the water treatment systems within Sasol and looked at ways of improving performance based on laboratory evaluations. 
-	I would then report/present results to production personnel and senior management. 
-	This required me to understand the production challenge and ability to interpret the results obtained from analytical labs when writing the recommendation/presenting the solution. 
-	My coordination skills were exhibited in this scenario. 
-	I also coordinated (arranged meetings, took minutes and ensured actions assigned to members were completed before next meeting) the Sasol-Eskom joint venture with 3 universities which was worth approx. R10 million per annum over 3 years. 
-	I took a leading role in the development of a sustainable disposal of ash and brines within Sasol, engineers and scientist in training worked under my supervision and I also had a technician directly reporting to me. 
-	I set up contracts with external parties (consultants and universities) and ensured delivery of results before authorising payments. 
-	The fact that I have made numerous journal publication and conference presentations in my field makes me a renowned specialist in my field with the international networks. 
-	I can work with people of diverse personalities and cultural backgrounds. 
-	I was a chairperson of the scientists ‘forum which was aimed at nurturing the newly appointed scientists. 
-	I did a lot to support them and developed the forum including independent budget and recognition to deserving members as well as arranging trips to relevant sites e.g. Forensic lab, SAB factory.

Constantly learning that you are never to old to learn, especially when there is situations which require you to come up with solutions to problems that is out of your field of expertise.

My co-workers is a real young team with little experience, but they are the best team of people to work with and I will tackle any problem with them at my side.

The hardest part of the job is to admit if there is something that we cannot achieve or complete. This is not always due to a lack of knowledge, but mostly things that cannot be fixed without replacing equipment.
To reprimand one of the team members is also something that is not one of my favourite activities - luckily that is not something that happens often.

The most enjoyable part of the job is to see one or all of the team members being rewarded for excellent work or ideas that were implemented.

• Some days are quite and some days are very hectic since we are  on the support side of business. However as a Business Analyst, one must always be on top of his/her game, know what is happening around you, in your industry as well as know what your competitors are up to so you can be in a better position to advise senior management to enable informed business decision making. 

•It is very important for one to be assertive, emotionally intelligent and be a strong team player given that we work with a lot of people within different project teams. 

• One needs to read a lot and try to make sense of what you have read and understand what does it mean for the business, know what impacts and implications would that info have on the business, then make recommendations to the Senior management. 

• As Business Analysts, we are the eyes and ears of the business as senior management rely on us to guide them and give strategic insights on targeted business goals so our company can always have a competitive advantage.

• The most enjoyable part of being an Analyst is to be able to work with people from different teams as well as senior management. it is also fulfilling to see your recommendations being taken seriously and being implemented

I am the SHE Officer for Sasol Technology Research & Development.
The department or business unit consists of approximately 500 employees with education levels from grade 10 to PhD’s.
We have about 270 PhD qualified personnel working at R&D.
I am involved in different daily activities which might include the following:
• Doing SHE related consultation with clients.
• Participate in HAZOP studies with clients.
• Participate in Risk Assessments.
• Participate in the visit and investigation of all SHE related incidents.
• I am actively involved in the preparation, training and execution of emergency preparedness.
• I attend and chair SHE related meetings.
• I represent the business unit at higher level forums.
• I am involved the development and reviewing of SHE related procedures.
• I provide SHE related training on different levels.
I am leaning everyday and I am always willing to learn more.
Management is always trying to provide the best guidance possible as per requirement of the company policies and procedures.

Clock in at 05h00 on a morning shift, shift only start at 05h30 officially and it's a 12 hour shift, which means we clock out at 17h30.
And clock in at 17h00 on a night shift and clock out at 05h30 the following morning.
I have gained experience in the following:

•	Commission and decommission the Synthol process plant.

•	Manage all maintenance activities, tagging of equipment, blank    lists, hot & cold work permits outside in the field.

•	Co-ordinate start-up & shutdown activities in the field.
•	Gas and explosion testing.
•	Ensure that plant readings are taken and deviations rectified.
•	Train operators according to plant operational standards.
•	Problem solving & plant optimization.
•	Manage safety watchers.
•	Plant inspections and fault finding.
•	Take charge during emergencies.

Management don't value the workers as they should, we are underpaid and complain actually puts you in a position you don't want to be in. Yearly merit suffers accordingly.

I can work with anybody, I believe that team work is essential to success

The hardest part of the job is feeling unappreciated and knowing that your assign Training officer doesn't support you.

Currently I am working on both sides of Sasol Synfuels for the Rectisol department.  Having ten production foreman, two area manager as well as a divisional manager to attend to can be a quite challenging environment.  There is no one day the same which I enjoy tremendously as it is not boring at all. There are some things that needs to be done like the dairies and the hired labour but the rest of the activities are different.  What I learned is that life is short and that one must appreciate every little detail. If the possibility if there to study and grow then jump in a do it. From computer programs (Excel, Work, PowerPoint, internet to personal growth). I have 81 co-workers from all races they love me and I them. The hardest part of my job is to try and convince people especially the younger generation that they must study and come to work every day to achieve something in live. The most enjoyable part of my job is that I have the opportunity to go into town when food is needed, or searching for the  correct safety equipment or buying presents for my co-workers.
 I enjoy being or working outside in the sun – to see and meeting new people and explore new possibilities. I work very well under stress.  As a person I can drive hard to get the job done. 


My Present job starts by reading emails and aligning oneself with issues needing immediate attention. Summarising Production values and preparing Report documents for daily Production Meeting. there are also teleconferences. At present I do not have people reporting to me but I have extensive experience as Production Shift Manager where I did a lot of work managing people, a very complex task due to the fact that a human being is of course a complex creature.

It is very rewarding to have good relation with co-workers because there is always a lot to learn from them but avoid gossips, Sometimes is very hard to adjust to a new working environment especially in our country where black professionals are looked upon with scepticism. As a new Manager you have convince the stereotypes that you are worth your salt both to higher management and subordinates. This is the hardest part of the job because you have to prove yourself over some time that you are good at what you do while you are learning the ropes of the new job. Charging people or chairing disciplinary hearing is also very difficult especially where dismissals are unavoidable.

I love working under pressure where targets are to be met. Developing individuals to create high performance teams are very rewarding aspects of our job.
