The work was distributed through the service manager system to the team. On a daily basis you have follow ups which needed your first attention, after which you can proceed with the daily incoming post and queries. We were allocated in a team of 12 members and a team leader. Every one can work independently through your work and if the need arise for an urgent case the team leader will allocate that specific case to you. Each member have a target to met on a daily basis which calculates to a percentage on the end of the month, and which rated you productively or under the average. Team work is very important for certain things needs to be done in a team, if the follow ups is high the team can decide on a plan of action to decrease the figure. I worked very hard together with my team members, we were a team of white, black,coloured and indian members and i dont have any problem working with one of them.  The importance for me is to get the work done in the best and fastest way and to improve everybody'. s skills. Through my 23 years of experience throughout SARS, i worked in a few departments and one of the ones i enjoyed very much was the summons department. In short we summonsed the taxpayers for outstanding debt, returns and on a weekly basis i went to court to assist the court officer with these cases, and before the court taken place, i had to assist the advocates and lawyers with the reasons why their clients cannot submit their returns and that broaden my skills and knowledge within SARS and the Law. That was one of the most enjoyable times of my career at SARS.

The CRE division is at its infancy. While there may be a wealth of knowledge I would be able to contribute, I am under the impression that  this is knowledge I first need to enhance. What I mean is that the organisation does not necessarily offer the Built Environment experience that I would personally like for my growth. As a graduate straight from school, I am learning every day, albeit a different perspective of something I thought I knew. My typical day at work is developing a scope of works, preparing a Bill of Quantities for a minor project, managing the remedy system and attending meetings. The culture in the organisation is a professional one, a little different from the typical construction site. My job is not difficult, however I may find that there are many tasks that I need to do on one day. The most enjoyable part of my job is when a project is completed and the client is satisfied with my project management.

I always start my day I the kitchen, 5-15 minutes having coffee with colleagues and catching up on work and other social issues. afterwards I check my emails and reply to all emails and check  my diary for any appointments coming up during the day. most of the employees in the organisations are middle aged going upwards, that brings lots of experience and much to learn from. The best part of my job is finding inconsistencies in the application of the legislature by the taxpayer increasing collection for SARS, more over doing research which results in closing tax gaps and increasing revenue. The hard part of my Job is working in a bureaucratic sector which limits the expedite of investigations( e.g. waiting 21 days to receive information requested).

Been through different kinds of structural changes at SARS, 2 to be exact. Through all this the organisation has been operational albeit with a few glitches in the last 5 years.

The systems and processes in place are working and not easy to circumvent. Governance is at an all time low due to the previous leadership being involved in fraudulent activities.

Competetive salaries are being paid accross the organisation. Cost cutting measures has limited upward growth

I loved it there, I learnt to manage an efficient filing system. I learnt about data capturing and its purpose.

We were acknowledged for doing good work. Even the highest of management has an interest in the wellbeing of workers.
Management style was consultative.

I had a lot of friends there, and I enjoyed going to work.

A typical day at work, was work, work, work and produce results. Lunch time was like a happy hour.

The hardest part is trying hard to reach the target and not be able to reach it.

SARS is a very good organisation to work for.
The only snag is that they usually have short term contracts
Pay is great - market related to permanent staff
I learned a lot about taxes and return submissions and 
debt collection contacting defaulting taxpayers to submit returns or pay taxes due

Working for SARS has been a great experiance in a sense that, SARS is one of the leading employer when it's comes to hiring unemployed graduates. I also started as a graduate trainee and worked my way up. SARS plays a huge role in our country or economy as a revenue collection engine for our South African government. I am proud to be a SARS employee because I also play a role in contributing to the SARS fiscus.

Everyday it always hectic, we dealing with a lot of people. 
I learned that it is very important to work with others as a team and respect each and respect clients as well.
Management threat us fairy and honesty. 
Hardest part of this job is to calm  clients if they are fighting with you.
Most enjoyable part is that everyday you mean different people.

I enjoyed every hour, minute and second I spent there.  I had a good relationship with my teammembers, other teamleader and the Tax Audit Managers.

I was given a big space to address tax matters;  career-wise I was fulfilled.


I left SARS employment for greener pastures as I joined the JD Group (the furniture retail and financial services).

If you stay in Pretoria SARS is one of the few big companies where you can have a great IT career, since they make use of Enterprise Scale Hardware and Applications.

Not your typical government organization , as it's run much like a private organization and still has many top class employees.
