Petsmart inc will just as soon trample their employees to increase their bottom line. They have NO problem telling half truths and whole lies to get people in the door. In the several years I worked there, I saw about 100 people come and go. The turnover rate is over 80%. The pay is better than most companies, but the work demand is outrageous. The building is entirely too small, the workforce is constantly expected to take on more and more work, with virtually zero increase in staff or resources. The Human Resources manager at this particular location is a joke. She is snarky, and rude. She cares more about enforcing the rules, than caring about employee problems. She routinely exercises personal feelings toward employees, and shows blatant favoritism towards particular individuals. Do not expect a caring attitude at Petsmart FDC 18, you are but a mule to them.

Working at a few stores, I have seen the different management styles. Not all treated employees well. I was fortunate enough to have a couple of great leaders as my direct management, especially my first manager. Associates at that store had a family feel and everyone supported each other. The next store not so much. Growth can be limited as there are not always management openings and it can take a long time for positions to open up. Most people I worked with felt that more and more was being asked of them every year without being compensated for the increased demand on them.

There’s no room for advancement, management would be so inconsistent about what to do vs not to do. Nobody was on the same page. High turnover rate. Raises were minimum. I worked for almost 3 years and made the same as what new people coming in made. And that was with a raise a year. Company cares more about money than it’s employees. I got sick and had to take time off, and when I was furloughed due to COVID management acted so distance and hateful about me being out due to a.) them PUTTING me out due to COVID, and B.) taking time off to focus on my health 

I have worked for this company for over 10 years. I used to feel like we had a purpose and that this company actually cared about people and pets. The new direction is actually the complete lack of direction and constant mistakes. They now care more about micro management of useless methodologies and obscure metrics, than they care about actually selling things and growing the business.   It isn't about a passion for saving pets, it is about saving face with a false public persona. They don't listen to the stores or the associates anymore, and it has become a dictatorship style leadership from the top down.

Working at Petsmart may seem like a good job because you get to work with animals all day, but in reality, customers ALWAYS come first, even if it means causing safety, quality, and health issues to the pets. This corporation and managers are so money hungry. Also, you may never get a break, or a time to sit down, and could end up working over 9 hour shifts a day. Managers are not helpful. You are also going to be doing  way more work than you are getting paid for. Overall, PetSmart is a horrible, horrible company.

I loved the animals and that’s really the only reason I stayed as long as I did. The store rarely had managers for more than a year or two and the floor managers never lasted long. Moving up is only available to the pretty brown nosers and standing up to a manager when they have caused the death of an animal is not respected. Blackmail is a common practice.

The atmosphere used to be great and everyone was like family. However as corporate began making changes things went downhill. They fire manager left and right. So much pressure is placed on employees to sell sell sell that the genuine connections once made with customers is no longer there. Employees are overworked and under paid.

Very young management team, poor teamwork within certain stores. Culture isn't consistent through the company.

For Cashier: Be sure to always be forward with approaching customers. Always try to sell Guides to customers, this will allow you to work more hours.
For Stocking: Be sure to ask and utilize all the tools for training. This will allow you to be able to be effective and restock everything in a timely manner.

Work was clear and concise. My particular shift lasted 8 or so hours overnight, in which, I would do a whole array of deep cleaning of areas and kennels. Towards the end, you'd usually prepare food for the dogs  and take them out to use the bathroom if needed. Overall, it is an alright job, but it has long, grueling hours.
