A typical day at McDonald's can vary depending on your role, but here's a general idea:

For a crew member:
- Arrive early for prep work (cleaning, restocking)
- Take orders, operate the register, and manage transactions

I want to first articulate that McDonald's is notorious for being the worst of the worst places to work.  I left the company on amicable terms and wish to describe an accurate, unbiased review of the job.  As, such I will not play to such notions and passionate dribble.  The work/life balance has its advantages and disadvantages.  Often times you can get a flexible 20-30 hour a week part time employment.  On the downside they are notorious for setting weird working hours, such as the closing/opening shift where you have to almost sleep in your car for 4 hours.  This kind of shift/day will destroy even the most dedicated employee.  The job itself requires constant attention and supervision.  The 5 minute and lunch breaks exist in theory, but not in reality.  I would say I ended up taking lunch breaks on 40 percent of the working days where I was eligible.  The 5 minute breaks were substituted on most days where a lunch break was unacceptable.  The job has two paces, fast and breakneck-speed.  Often times they under staff to improve labor cost, which is understandable at a business standpoint.  But it often leaves you alone to work the grill and table or drive through and front counter, which can be a catastrophic mistake, due to small "rushes".  Compensation is minimum wage and occasionally (about 3 months out of the year) a free meal a shift.  You can purchase different store insurance and dental plans, but after review I found them oversold compared to comparable private insurance.  The greatest upside to the job is job security.  If you show up and do your best you will not be fired.  Advancement is easy for those willing to put time in, even though your rise will likely stop at assistant store manager (or assistant General Manager).  Management will try their best to work with what they are given, but it often isn't much.  I have had few "poor" managers while working there, all though their treatment of employees can be akin to arbitrary at points.  The job culture is its both major strength and weakness.  The upper management has instilled a true sense of belonging to an organization, but the promises it puts forth of caring about employees and product is contrary to its procedures at times.  The job can have double standards.  I hope my review did not come across as callous and inflammatory.  I just hoped to give an accurate review of McDonald's employment.

McDonalds is a fast moving environment and not suitable for anybody who wants to earn money for doing the least amount of work possible! I worked in a 24 Hour restaurant, therefore closes tended to be very late however this also allowed for night work which meant i could squeeze in an evening shift after university or college if i was running low on money! Another bonus is you are paid every two weeks (yaay!) 

Whilst at McDonalds, i completed an apprenticeship for which i received an NVQ in Catering and Hospitality, I was promoted to Crew Trainer and then Floor Manager (A role i believe only exists in Franchised stores) and I also completed my Basic Shift Management course which would have allowed me to be a Shift Runner. McDonalds provides many opportunities for promotion! The pay isn't great but the more shifts you can work the better off you will be!

Co-Workers can be unreliable as in any job and many people apply thinking it will be an easy ride, don't turn up for shifts etc as in any job. There is a lot to learn when working at McDonalds and the expectations from the Management are particularly demanding. 

There was a great atmosphere among the staff and many of us tended to socialise outside of work with nights out not arranged by work etc. However due to the age of people working within McDonalds (students, although there are some older members of staff) there was quite alot of bitchiness after nights out etc. 

All in all i enjoyed my time at McDonalds and would recommend to any students!

A typical day at McDonald's is extremely fast-paced and physically exhausting. You are expected to multitask constantly under pressure, especially during peak hours.

What I learned:
I learned resilience, patience, customer service skills, and how to work under intense pressure. The job teaches you how demanding the fast-food industry can be.

Management:
Management style depends on the location. In my experience, communication and support were lacking, which made the job more stressful than necessary.

Workplace culture:
The workplace culture is high-pressure and can feel overwhelming. Teamwork exists, but stress and burnout are common.

Hardest part of the job:
Long hours on your feet, constant rush, and high expectations with limited flexibility.

Most enjoyable part:
The colleagues. Some team members make the environment bearable and help you get through tough shifts.

Overall:
My experience felt unbearable at times, but I believe working conditions may differ depending on the location and management.

 Employee of the Month for 03/2011 for innovation and performance. Selected in 10/2013 to represent McDonalds South Africa at the One Young World Summit 2013, graduating as an ambassador.

A typical day for me would begin at 06:00am (or at times 12:00pm running the grave shift as we were a 24 hour operation).  My day would consist of (but not limited to) checking stock levels, drawing variance reports on P & L's, rostering of shifts, ordering of stock, ensuring maintenance schedules were adhered to, quality checks, audits on hygenine, attending to staff issues, banking etc etc.  Being a multi cultural employer it was a challenge to balance the needs of all staff and to respect each persons culture but with respect and integrity it becomes part of your daily task and you learn to understand individual needs.  I admire the company's attention to detail. their focus on hygiene and quality and particularly their focus on people development and community development - this taught me to appreciate my colleagues and to understand the diversity that we live with each day.  The most enjoyable party of my job was being able to interact with the customers and to make a difference in a company that I knew recognised my contribution and that I could be proud of

As a company that's worldwide known jus my its icon is an amazing feat. The opportunity to start at entry level and work your way up by your own personal goal is ever present I the right environment. 
McDonalds isn't dead end, it's a ladder up, if wanted and a person sees themselves on that ladder to advancement.
My years as both management and crew member are of mixed reviews.
1) As a whole, corporation and franchisee; step up and pay your employees a living wage. A real living wage. 
It boggles my mind that some employees work a 40 hr work week on min wage and are seriously struggling.

McDonalds don't put money first, not when the money is coming from those who are making for you. Play fair.

But in all McDonalds isn't the worst place to work. I know it's one of few businesses that allow anyone who is customer service driven to go far.
Although I've worked McDonald's on and off, my experience with mentoring the younger employees was exceeding rewarding. So I encourage the you g seeking not only a job but seek to advance in management and food service definitely try McDonald's.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Team work and accountability was taken as a priority. The atmosphere was always positive since we worked together to achieve the targets, the procedures were easy to follow.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Ensuring quality is delivered at all times to keep the company's reputation and growth as this is an international brand. Dealing with difficult customers in a precise manner also posed a lot of constraints as the saying 'customer is always right' can be over used.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Unity, hardworking and maintenance of a clean as well as healthy environment is taken as priority to help maintain the status quo of the company and to combat simple things such as an unhygienic space that can lead to food poisoning leading to customer desertification and health problems.

My day for the first time at McDonald's it started as if it was good but  was as time went by i started to see red flags on how they handle their employees, when it comes management and workplace culture. the reason behind this is that they don't offer a contract (e.g. Probation) when you start to work after you've passed your training for 4 days, i really don't understand why.... but with time there i discovered that they don't offer a contract at all because i met a person who has worked 4 year's  there  but he's a part time just like the new employees who are hired maybe at that time and they exploit their employees because i saw that they don't want them to go to CCMA should they be unfairly mistreated by the employer in the work place or should they be injured during the work but they can't claim any IOD ( injury on duty ) because there's no agreement between you and the employer, hence why I'm saying this above its because i was a victim too and that's hardest part about working there plus they stress with pressure of incoming order's as if you are a robot or something.  

I had a hard time going to work, as i was 14 and immature they picked on me as i was a younger one and i couldn't handle it. I worked in the back area which was also all boys, and that made it a little bit more difficult, but i dealt with it and it got better the longer you worked there. Every day at work was pretty much the same doing the same thing, it was always better when it was busier as the day went faster, i learnt many skills and many things about mcdonalds the hardest part of the job was all of it at first, it took a while to get used to.. learning how to cook all the meats for certain times and learning all the names that they are called in the actual work place, but this also got easier over time and was easy to learn. The most enjoyable part was when i was learning new things, i love doing that and i learnt something new all the time.
