As a Sales Associate at Lovisa, my experience was multifaceted, offering both positive and challenging aspects. On the positive side, the role provided valuable exposure to customer service and retail operations, enhancing my interpersonal skills and understanding of sales dynamics. The employee discount was a notable perk, allowing me to appreciate the products more intimately.

However, the position also presented significant challenges. The compensation did not align with the workload and responsibilities assigned, leading to feelings of being undervalued. Management practices were often disorganized, with instances of inadequate training and support, resulting in a stressful work environment. Additionally, the high expectations for sales performance, coupled with minimal staffing, meant that employees frequently worked alone for extended periods, which was both demanding and isolating. Opportunities for advancement appeared limited, making long-term career growth within the company seem uncertain.

In summary, while the role at Lovisa offered some foundational retail experience, the combination of low pay, insufficient managerial support, and limited growth prospects made it a challenging and, at times, frustrating employment experience. 

This is the worst place to work at. They expect so much from you when all their stores are understaffed. The workload is impossible to finish when there are just two people in the store and when those two people have to pay attention to the customers as well. The management is terrible, they are spiteful and inconsiderate. One of the regional managers in the Durban region cut my hours deliberately for the whole week just because I asked to be off on a specific day due to exams. They expect you to make piercing targets when they charge customers ridiculous amounts. They threaten to give you a warning or to fire you every-time you don’t make targets, how is that supposed to motivate you in the workplace. There are also times when they don’t pay you and then you’ll have to wait for your pay longer than the intended date. The pay is too little for the amount of stress they put you under. Anyone who plans on working for Lovisa make sure you have a therapist on standby. 

A typical day at work involves assisting customers, managing stock, and ensuring the store runs smoothly. I believe I learned the importance of teamwork, time management, and staying calm under pressure. Management has been supportive and goal-driven, always encouraging us to improve. The workplace culture is collaborative, fast-paced, and customer-focused, which keeps me motivated. The hardest part of the job is handling difficult customers while still maintaining professionalism, but it has taught me patience and resilience. The most enjoyable part is helping customers find what they need, seeing their satisfaction, and knowing I contributed to a positive shopping experience.


the working hours are really long. you don't get a chance to sit or rest apart from the hour lunch break you get. there are mostly two people working at time , which means that the daily targets get compromised as you have to juggle everything betwwen the two of you. theft gets so bad sometimes to the point where you are playing security gaurd instead of actually doing your job. don't get me started on management. what they say goes , no discussion. they have this weird urge to constantly want to make you feel inferior. when it comes to kpi's , you WILL get blamed for them not being met. it will be your fault that people don't want get their ears pierced. oh ! the dress code... no denim , including jackets. no sneakers too. the wage is not worth all this nonsese tbh.

Horrible environment. You are expected to every day change up the store and work over time, with no over time pay. You are given instructions on uniform for them to say oh no. Which as I told blondie from Australia, that a contract was signed. You can't now tell me no I can't wear this when it fits within the dress code. If they want to change up something, they should supply seasonal uniform like Woolworths clothing does.
They contribute nothing to parking nor petrol but want to ask favors like oh please go fill in at this or that store because they are a lady down.

Everything, specially when your in management (Store manager). The pressure, anxiety, long hours and stress is all unhealthy

The team members are amazing. It’s upper management that’s toxic, rude, stressful, emotional and mentally abusive

Boxes of stock, customer experience, constant calls from area manager and long exhausting hours

Nothing really except the 70% discount you get when purchasing.

Being overworked while you are short staffed.

Work environment is very toxic.

Very long and stressful, as you are expected to give the best customer service and look out for thiefs simultaneously. It can be overwhelming because you also have to answer calls of superiors putting pressure on you to reach targets.

 Working at Lovisa South Africa has been a rewarding and enjoyable experience. The company offers a vibrant and fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. I’ve gained valuable retail and customer service skills, especially in areas like visual merchandising, sales, and building strong customer relationships.

One of the highlights of working here is the supportive and energetic team culture – everyone is encouraged to contribute and grow together. Management provides clear guidance and sets achievable goals, while also recognizing hard work and dedication.
