What is the best part of working at the company?
Working with people and learning about garments. Jonsson does focus on creating memorable moments for their employees. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The ideology is that good is never good enough and that you are hired for a role but should be able to do any other role, without any additional compensation or raise. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Autocratic, Top-down Management style. 

Senior and Top Management lacks Leadership Skills. 

They have no problem belittling you in front of other staff and creating the idea that you are incompetent.  If you don't live the "Jonsson Way" you are uncommitted, useless, and should be dismissed. 

Employee benefits are non-existent.  

Jonsson doesn't believe in promotions.

Has a high staff turnover.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typical Retail Working Hours are.

Monday to Friday 07:30 - 17:00
Saturday 07:30 to 13:00
Sunday 08:30 to 13:00

You are off every second weekend from Friday at 13:00 

The additional 30 minutes of overtime worked is not seen as overtime and is lost. You are expected to start working from early as 7:00 or as soon as you arrive at work.

In December you get leave but before and after you might need to work 3 - 4 weeks without any off.

The pay is not worth the stress, pressure, or toxicity. Expectations are extremely high, support is minimal, and boundaries are not respected. Concerns raised by staff are often ignored or used against them.
This is a highly toxic, high-pressure environment where leadership frequently abuses their power. The work environment can be risky and poorly managed, with little regard for employee well-being. The head office & depot culture is hostile, unkind, and unsupportive, which makes day-to-day work emotionally exhausting. 
Decisions around bonuses and recognition are not transparent and often appear to favour personal favourites or those who align themselves with management, rather than performance.
Team members expect others to constantly monitor or follow up on them just to get basic work done, which creates unnecessary tension and frustration. 
Quiet annoyed by everything and can't request for a transfer because all branches are terrible!

learning valuable skills such as customer interaction, leadership, communication, and time management. Training and exposure to product knowledge are also noted as positives.

The culture at Jonsson Workwear appears to be a mix — with strong team relationships and learning opportunities in some roles, but also management challenges, pressure, and inconsistent support in others.

Customer interactions
Stocking and merchandising
Sales and store upkeep

Brown people have a specific role within the company. Almost ALL senior roles are fulfilled by white employees.  Salary is not in line with working hours.  Your contract states that you work from 8am to 5pm, but if you are not in at 7am/7.30am and if you don't wait until the store closes or until the last customer leaves then you will be in trouble with management.  Most days you give the company an hour extra.  Weekend work is compulsory, yet not discussed at the interview stage.  You will not be considered for promotion if you have ever given a negative opinion about any aspect of the company.  Be prepared to be yelled at from junior staff all the way to Directorship.  Don't ever make the mistake of trusting HR in this company.

The culture, how we (the employees) are taken care of. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The amount of emails one gets a day can make you lose track of time easily,however it keeps you on your toes and interested. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I am the happiest that I have ever been at any company. I do not wish to leave Jonsson Workwear as I feel at home, valued, and heard. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very productive yet fun.  We all feel free to express ourselves to one another. When there are disagreements, we always work together to resolve them.

Typical day at work

- Very slow in terms of the amount of work, but work gets piled up when approaching month end.

Management

- Good managers, very proffesional but there is not much of communication, no meetings etc. 


Workplace culture

-Very mature workplace with alot of very emotionally intelligent people. The people get along very good. Respect is at the forefront between all the diverse cultures. Free coffee, ofcourse. Highly recommend the culture

Hardest part of the job

Reconciling tons of transactions each and every day.

Poor very poor management that can't lead a team and does not know how to manage good teamwork and team spirit. Honestly the most worse working environment that I have and will experience. Treating people with no respect what so ever and making work colleagues fighting amongst each other. Just want a job with good teamwork and willingness to help one another in the working environment.

The company revolves around manufacturing garments for almost half the South African population, which makes it a fast paced industry with zero tolerance for errors. Being employed in this company has taught me the business and market side of things and not only the practical creative skill set. With the knowledge I've acquired as a graphic artist, it has broadened my understanding of brands and how to approach them.

There you feel like you are just a number and to succeed you need to play the political game. Hard work won't get you anywhere unless your friends with the boss. Pay is not bad but you don't get paid overtime, increase and bonus is something I only saw once in 3 years working there. 

Came covid, they retrenched old staff and kept newbies. Didn't care to be loyal to those who were loyal to them.


A fast paced environment, needs someone who is dedicated and fast.
Be able to resolve issues or attend matters in real time.

Team activities are what keeps most of the team members going, seen and valued.
There is a work life balance, team splits on weekends and that gives other team members to rest.
