During my internship in Intergovernmental Relations and Stakeholder Management, a typical day involved preparing briefing notes, coordinating meetings, tracking project deliverables, and liaising with provincial and local stakeholders. I contributed to streamlining reporting processes and ensuring timely follow-up on action items, which improved communication between departments. I learned how to manage multiple priorities, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and apply governance procedures in practice. Management was supportive, providing guidance while encouraging initiative. The workplace culture was collaborative and results-driven, promoting accountability and professional growth. The hardest part was managing competing stakeholder demands under tight deadlines, while the most rewarding part was seeing projects progress smoothly and knowing my contributions supported better intergovernmental coordination.

My typical work involves having to investigate cases of misconduct against employees, writing reports on investigations conducted, Representing the employer during disciplinary hearings or at Bargaining Council during Conciliation/ Arbitration proceedings.

I have learned how to conduct proper investigations relating misconducts and drafting of Charge Sheets.

My management is very supportive and give me the opportunity to use my own discretion when investigating cases.

My co-workers are supportive and team players.

The Hardest part is seeing fellow employees loosing their jobs but I have accepted that any wrong doings need to be corrected and that forms part of my responsibilities.

The most enjoyable part of my job is when I resolve complex cases and ensuring that the employer is being saved from losses as a result of improper conduct by the employees

	Process of land use applications and monitoring outcomes.
	Researching and analysing data to inform strategic developments or plan policies to guide development in the department.
	Conducting interviews and compiling survey reports on successful completed provincial government construction projects specifically school and hospital projects.
	Writing report and recommending or explain detail on matters affecting the department.
	Attend imbizos (Public participation meetings) to record MEC’s commitments and collect data for the purposes of compiling post imbizo reports.  
	Host seminars to evaluate the strategic research reports for the purposes of information dissemination with internal and external stakeholders.
	Interacting with stakeholders in facilitation of research programs and planning policy.


Provision of leadership to Project Management Units operationg on behalf of the government for infrastructure development. In Government space learnt a lot of things of what not to do when managing a project and prepared readiness for me to identify when a project was headed for the doldrums. 
Hardest part was a lot of interference from the political spectrum as monies being handled were public funds. 
Workplace culture was not team driven but mostly individual initiative.

This organisation requires one to have good communication skills and about 95% of your time is spent communicating.

The office was very busy and we dealt with finance and public queries a lot.  I learned that one needs to have empathy but at the same time be assertive. Management is very engaging and involves staff in contributing to the success of the office.

I got along with my co-workers and learned how to deal with different personalities but mostly it was like family.

The hardest part of the job was getting colleagues to deliver on expectations.

I enjoyed seeing my manager's appreciation in assisting her with ensuring her office runs smoothly and ensuring that everything is done as requested.

- most difficult part of the job is matching financial resources to the never ending service delivery needs.
- most enjoyable part is when construction projects are delivered on time, to specification and within budget.

it a stress free and very people orientated enviroment

there is no real stress at the work place as long as the work at hand is done

Working for the department is good for beginners because of the major shutdowns equipping you to be a great problem solver.

The work challenges you to be a quick thinker and equips you to be competitive and handle major projects. Jobs specifications are versatile which stretches knowledge as to other trades.

A good place to gain experience indeed.

Typical public service, does indeed depend on your line managers. I enjoyed it when I had line managers who gave room for professionals to perform their jobs. It was a bit difficult when politics ruled over professionalism.

It was the most fulfilling and purposeful time of my career. Serving the people of the Province was a privilege and honour.

Engaging with communities, witnessing government deliver on their promises and my ability to share this to employees was simply fulfilling!
