Food Lion

Poor wages but steady hours. No training or onboarding. My sched published on Sat, maybe, for following week which starts on Sun, the day after.  Managers work hard so I can't blame them. Most are doing shift of reg employee plus have all the managerial responsibilities for the dept without OT.

Rather have work than no income. 

Food Lion needs to train staff,how to address & respond to Customers.  Sir, Ma'am, I'll stop what I'm doing to find answer 'not my dept' is not an answer. Teach new employees how to stock. If no room we do not just put items anywhere. Pies do not get stocked vertically

Personally, months in, no orientation: 2 weeks of no pay caz mgr never set up my log in. Months later, still cant remote access schedule or benefits. I make min so any bene would be a plus. Seriously, retired once, stock an avg 4 pallets compared to millennials who do less than 1 plus redo their throw anywhere back stock plus do ordering & end cap sale set all for same wage.

No worries, ol skol, happy 2hav a job, an income so I'll giv u 110% everyday without complaint but thought u shud kno... publicly caz no one listens at the store level



Food Lion is a great place to work and starts you out at a fairly decent hourly rate.  However, after that raises are very small or non existent and getting overtime approved is like pulling teeth.  During COVID, while most places paid $3-4 more an hour for months and months, Food Lion only paid $2/hr. for part timers and $3/hr. For full timers and only did it for 3 months and switched to a quarterly $300 bonus after that, which has long since ended.  While I know of some companies that are still paying the COVID incentive or have raised starting wages substantially, it seems they are dragging their feet to do so despite billions of dollars of unforeseen profits over the past couple of years.  Even store managers and assistant managers I’ve spoken with are baffled by this.

 The last company I had worked for was more organized than Food Lion will ever be, even on their worst days. There is not enough staff to manage the the back end of the store properly without everyone getting burnt out. With that, whenever we do something wrong management does not communicate with us what the problem is. They write us up. Or simply get upset with us because we aren't working 'as hard as we should be'. Morale is very low and people feel unnapreaciated. I was hired at part time but was immediatly scheduled  40+ hours a week for a month and a half. Not complaining about that because money is money, but I gave my manger an updated availablility form of 30 hours a week and he has barley been speaking to me after that. My advice is find somewhere that actually functions.

My job may not be the best paying job but I do enjoy going to work because my fellow associates make it a fun place to work. The management is run well and rules are enforced but not so strict that you never want to come to work. Typically our days at food lion are busy so we are constantly getting people through our lines as productively as possible. The hardest part of my job is keeping ALL the customers happy, especially when we are busy or are having technology issues. I absolutely love when people compliment me on my job skills or thank me for being so helpful. It warms my heart and makes my day go by a little faster.

I spent over 10 years with this company. When I was putting my self through college they worked with me on scheduling. I was able to advance quickly and held multiple job titles. The downsides were high turnover so it always felt like you were training someone and working on weekends and holidays was mandatory at times. I enjoyed working in the back of the store more where you didn't have to deal with the customers as much. Sometimes you have to work over night, or very early in the morning, or until very late at night, and sometimes you have to do all three in a week. Having a set schedule is rare. 

Depending on the insurance, its not bad. Upper level management is more concerned with profit than the well being of associates. Raises are a joke for long term employees. budgets set to low to properly train new employees, according to management. Hourly associates punished for making mistakes. Management makes a mistake, and it's brushed under the rug. All they are worried about is profit. Taking care of the customers is just lip service. 

When I worked as a stocker, it was fasted paced. When the truck would come in I responsible for down stocking the truck, and to put merchandise away and to put overstock in it's proper place. Then I went to the frozen department and did the same thing. Then I moved to the deli where I learned to cut meat and cheese, make sandwiches, salads and cooked food for the hot bar. In the deli the hardest part was getting the poundage right for the deli meat. I learned a lot about attending to the customer. I have worked in retail for 22 years.

I can’t think of anything positive about working there.

Back stabbing people who only want to look busy and throw all the work on someone else and are making every excuse not to be at their register 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Lazy, lying, back stabbing people who push their work off and expect others to kill themselves to pick up the slick. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Misery! There is NO leadership! A lot of chiefs, not enough Indians.

Management and HR have absolute hatred and discriminate against all persons with physical medical conditions.  They do not offer any assistance, unwilling to assist customers.  Speak rudely to employees and speak down to customers.  Show disregard for older citizens bagging their groceries too heavy so that they cannot be lifted by the citizens.  If employees do not live in a manner acceptable to management they get punished.

What is the best part of working at the company?
They suck if you don't  brown nose you won't move up in company and they don't honor religious beliefs even though they have it on their application

No raises and being over worked for the amount of money they pay

There are some good ppl that care
