This job is a bait and switch position.  They will tell you during the interview process that it's all about aggressive selling and building a relationship with your customers, however, it is far from that.  This is the job for you if you enjoy being on the phone at least 95% of your day - on the phone so much that you wear a headset.  You will be on the phone soliciting customers (like a telemarketer) and worse, collecting on past due accounts.  They have no sense of empathy and talk about the customers who are holding them back from achieving delinquency numbers like they are the scum of the earth.  Unless you enjoy being cursed at (because you are required to call people on their jobs!) or worse, being threatened in person because of "doing your job", I would stay far away from here.  I have no idea how you are to build a relationship with anyone treating them in such a nasty, rude manner.  Management couldn't care less about how you treat the customers as long as you make or exceed goal monthly - which is rare because they make it extremely difficult to do so by setting high goals to achieve.  They will pressure you to perform and berate you if you do not.  Work/life balance is horrible, too - they expect you to come in early, stay late and work weekends if necessary.  Granted, you get paid overtime for doing so, but the trade-off isn't worth it.  I wanted this job so badly for years and was highly disappointed once I got the position because it was nothing like what I expected for it to be or what it was "sold" to me as.  I would recommend Citi as a company but I definitely wouldn't recommend this Consumers Sales Rep position to anyone.

I am currently the SSA (Sub-Sahara Africa) Cluster Planning & Analysis Officer at Citibank. 

The role involves engaging with stakeholder across SSA and liaising with global counterparts to understanding the internal and external drivers of business performance with the view to share and create clarity on SSA specific issues with the global partners. 

The continuing analysis also allows me to share valuable insights which aid the Planning / budgeting process. I would now like to be part of business and drive performance from within the business and not just as a finance business partner.

I have learned the following amongst other things:

1) Manage expectations / relationships and to be able to interact with business partners from different parts of the world / cultures.

2) Supervise junior staff with the view to drive productivity while helping them develop their skills / careers.

3) Liaise with senior members of the organisation.

The challenges in my role include: 

1) Managing expectations vs. team productivity.

2) Constantly finding ways to add value to clients.

3) Managing work / life balance

My job is ever changing and allows room to constantly learn and understand different parts of the business.

They pay well and demand as much in return as would any other American organization.

Due to the nature of our departments work and living closest to the Bank and being the head of my department, I took the responsibility of going to work as and when there was a requirement to approve a transactions would could occur anywhere in the world.

This meant being on the job as and when required.

I found the most fun part of the job doing projects like implementing changes in software and training people.

My co-workers were good to work with and enjoyed the same work ethic.

I learned that when there is a transaction going on, it is usually a matter of uttermost importance to the person in another country which could mean the ruin of his business if it did not go through so i inculcated this understanding to my colleagues.  That this needs to be just as important to us.

Life is not just doing a job, its enjoying what we do and understanding why we do it.

Making a job easier and more efficient for everyone who works with you, understanding their situation and letting them work in accordance with it.

Getting higher up the ladder does not mean less work,  it means more responsibility.

It means adapting to change and embracing what it entails.

Very very long hours and you required to do more than one persons jobs being a small branch

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Terrible work conditions, officers need a revamp and is outdated...Culture asks for more than is expected of one person

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long long hours, lots of meeting offshore and not enough time to complete your expected work load

typical day in the morning we do same day returns, then move over to T+4 trades which are crucial because they crucial as the JSE runs the reversal.
 I have learned to manage time effectively and thrive under pressure. 
The management style is more of an open door kind of policy 
co-workers are easy to work with and strongly believe in team work \
the hardest would really be dealing with difficult customers and the pressure and risk that comes with the job 
you learn a lot from different people and about the stock exchange its self

Every day at Citi can be a different day. the environment is challenging, and the culture is hard and fast paced.
Personally, I am learning everyday with the new situations or HR matters we are exposed to. i enjoy the Businesses i partner with.

i am really fortunate in that Citi has enabled me to perform HRBP, Training and Mobility role all in one, and that is something unique to the industry.

No support from management or subordinates. Complete lack of willingness by management to train staff. Little meaningful work,not treated with respect by many.Suffered from depression & anxiety. Business was always territorial and hence nothing was accomplished. My team were rated High performers, I was rated non performer, no explanation how this was possible Worst place ever to work at!

The culture within the organization had taken a distressing turn, becoming an environment entrenched in toxicity. It was characterized by a pervasive negativity that seeped into every aspect of interaction, stifling creativity, eroding morale, and creating an atmosphere where trust and collaboration struggled to thrive. This toxic culture had woven its way through the fabric of the workplace, tainting relationships and hindering productivity.

They allowed or forced the employees to learn as much as possible with the only purpose to explote the employees without giving them the pay or the title according with their knowledge and hard work. To get a day off during bussines hours is almost imposible. Employees with kids on school age are not allowed time to be responsable parents. There is not family/job time balancing. 

Poor leadership and managers within wealth management area. 
Little to no communication from senior management on vision, strategy or roadmap.
Very political and people aren't necessarily promoted based on meritocracy.
Managers provide little to no development, play favorites and are very inconsistent with every day tasks, coverage, etc.
