Every day is a busy day, from receiving and booking in stock to assisting customers and checking stock levels.

Absolute Pets is by far the best working experience I have ever had. The company is filled with amazing, friendly and hard working people. I made a lot of friends and learned an enormous amount about animals, food, medicine, treatments, etc. 

Management is pretty good in my experience. I couldn't have asked for a better Area Manager. However one big con would be Store Managers only get paid 10% more than their colleagues. Which doesn't really feel like a fair deal for the amount of work they do.

By far the most enjoyable part of my job is the clients. Seeing the passion and love clients have for their pets makes the job so much more fun. 

Hardest part of the job would be the hours. We receive stock from warehouse twice a week. Wherein we have to be at the store an hour an half before opening. You alse have to do stock counts every week, we arrive at the store about 2 hours before opening in order to get it all done as there is simply no time during trading hours to complete these tasks.

The employees are well respected and payed. I'd recommend the job for a young person.  In order for them to grow well there

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Receiving stock while also assisting customers at the same time is a challenge. Especially when working alone. The stores are small but have a lot of labour and admin work

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
When the collegues are professional, work becomes quicker to complete. The work environment is definitely healthy especially for a young person who is just stating out their career in retail and willing to even grow. The culture is also very good.  There is a level of respect amongst employees. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Count stock.
Receive stock from different suppliers.
Give customers a world class service 
Admin work.

a typical day at the store is basically come in clean, make orders for the day, open the store for business day and then help customers, receive deliveries etc while making sure all the admin stays up to date. Most of your team members will be really easy to get along with and will always be more than happy to help you, you get the odd man who is out to make everyone else miserable, but you get them everywhere. you may be surprised with puppy visits in a mall and you will see animals everyday if your branch has a parlor. most days are either a lot of fun or really boring depending on where you are based. just make sure your admin is meticulous and you communicate with your team and management when you are confused or made a mistake.

A typical day is getting to work on time and clocking in....so you don't get a warning. 
I learned that you have to play nice with people and watch your words or things might end up with higher ups and you'll get moved if not demoted to a store that makes less money should you step on the wrong foot. 
People is this business use their emotions a lot and they will treat you likewise...... If a certain AM doesn't like you, best believe the rest of them know about you and they can't help it but pass remarks
These instances happen in front of you and dare you say anything or comment then you might be in the doghouse. 
Overtime is give to people they like if not friends.
They have no personal etiquette or know how to speak to people. You'll go the extra mile with no appreciation.

Makes sense now why the employees either abscond from work or resign.


Opening the store, creating orders to receiving stock throughout the day while busy with customers. Store operations and customer service were fun to learn. Senior management is ok, middle management is biased. Lack of Professionalism, Emotional Intelligence and Tribalism. Beware of favoritism and Managers that could expect you to suck up to them. Team leaders, these you get to deal with in the stores. Good luck,  do not tolerate disrespect or abuse in the workplace. Hardest part would be reaching targets with less foot count, this means going hard on upselling. Working shifts is the best part and ir being off every 2nd weekend. The company on it's own is alright it's the colleagues you'll need resilience to coexist with. At the end of the day, everyone is an employee. 

You learn a lot about about pets, how to provide great customer service and how to perform different admin and store duties. It can be very demanding at times as there is pressure for you to adhere to a number of tasks in a day, reach the store target and at the same time provide good customer service. 

Colleagues tend to be helpful and supportive. Some Team Leaders (and Area Managers) are better to work with than others. 

There are opportunities to earn extra money on top of your base salary through incentives and working overtime. 

It can be very draining working at the company (like many other retail companies) because of the irregular/inconsistent work schedule.



I loved the job that I did, I did not like the people I worked for. Management would never take your side if anything went wrong. They only tried to preserve the customers they have instead of the people that work for them. You are just a number on a paper and you will be treated exactly as such. Managers always gossip and as soon as something goes wrong they are fast to point fingers to everyone else. You do get to learn a lot of things and gain a lot of benifits from them but in the end it is not worth having your mental state and health decline.

Love working with animals cause they always loving and cute and the parents appreciate us as groomers.

Having to deal with unnecessary customer complaints and getting no commission for cut only grooms

Work environment and culture depends on who your colleagues are that your working with.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typical day is a pensioners day for me where I can't even go to the loo,so busy is my schedule.

You will get used to be part of the team. Coming in the morning and cleaning up and placing orders before you open the store. It eventually becomes the daily routine. Meeting up with customers and they do not trust you because you are new to them, but with time you get used to them and they too will be used to you. Creating customer relations at the point of you knowing their pets names and them showing you pictures of their pets that is enjoyable. Confronting grumpy customers who are always in a hurry and are not patient enough to wait for their turn to be served.

They expect a lot from you and give nothing in return. You can go the extra mile throughout your time at the company but they will forget all of it as soon as you make ONE mistake. Very little room for growth. SOME (not all) team leaders have disgusting ego's. They don't take care of their staff and wonder why people quit or stop putting in effort.
