The mornings were pretty straighforward, start with checking email, drawing reports and comparing to the previous days figures and report back to business heads, general managers as well as marketing consultants with regards to the budgets.

Follow up on outstanding payments submitted to the accounts department and submitting of new payments to the accounts department.

I learned how to manage time and work under extreme pressure. 
Always try to give more then expected
Never bite off more then you can chew and learn how and when to push back work
Always respond to clients whether external or internal
Always keep clients up to date with progress.

Managers and staff will always encounter issues or problems like any relationship but that's exactly what it is, a relationship and it's something that was always worked on and the respect was mutual in every possible way.

I'm very independant however I do enjoy working with a team of respectful inviduals who can and are willing to discuss ideas openly and fairly which was something that we could do as a team and it helped in order to get business running as smooth as posible. Not all co-workers think the same but that is something that we have to understand and respect and it helped me get along with almost everyone within the department.

The hardest part of the job was liasing with business unit heads, getting the business structures for the yerar and creating a budget structure to align to business. This was the most stressful part of the jpob because I was the only person able to create the structures on SAP and there's a;ways a tight deadline to get the complete structure loaded onto the system in order for me to load the budgets to the structure for distribution. there were many risk factors involved in having this responsibility, therefore it was more stressful then difficult, however the best part of the job was knowing that I was able to do this and trusted to do the job because it was something that could only be done once a year and cannot be changed for the rest of the year, so it had to be right the first timeround.

I really enjoyed the work as well as the work environment and the challenge of the job. I feel that i work well under pressure and that was a great advantage for me to excel at my job and I really liked working for the company.

what i enjoyed at Absa is doing the following :
• Balance, control and manage the cash float by checking the amount of cash at the teller station and requesting the restocking or repatriation of cash
•Dispense and receive physical cash, cheques, travellers cheques, drafts and other financial instruments over the counter to walk in customers
•Process and encash cheques presented by customers for deposit or payout after checking identification, account details and other prescribed controls
•Refer transactions in excess of teller mandate limits to next level team leader or branch manager for authorisation
•Capture transactions on the Bank system and ensure that all transactions are properly authorised before finalising the processing
•Count cash received or dispensed to ensure that errors are avoided
•Reconcile own cash at the beginning and end of each day as well as when cash is restocked during the day
•Ensure that journals are processed to recover charges for manual transactions processed for customers
•Provide advice to customers on the cash and other transaction processes to ensure the smooth flow of transactions
•Exhaust attempts to resolve customer enquiries before escalating to other departments or the team leader
•Explain the Banks procedures, security requirements as well as service offerings available to customers
•Report customer complaints on the Banks Customer Care process (CCP) to facilitate feedback to improve service to customers
•Guide customers on how to correctly complete transaction documentation
•Ensure accuracy and efficiency when engaging with the customer
•Portray a professional image and ensure that personal appearance conforms
•Maintain a neat and tidy workstation at times
•Identify sales leads and cross selling opportunities
•Explain the campaign details, during sales campaigns in brief and direct the clients to Sales Consultants

•Manage security items i.e. Cash, Teller stamps, Safe keys, combinations and FBSS cards in line with policies and procedures

Required to be at work by 8:00,will have a staff meeting from 8:00 to 8:20 where sales and customer service will be discussed,open the doors at 8:30 ,walk the banking floor to greet customers and direct them to relevant point of service. Attend to the tellers,authorise their transactions above their mandates.

Sign off yesterday department work and dispatch it into Metro file box for 3 month branch storage. Discuss with Treasury clerk how much cash to be ordered and to stay within parameters.

Have a one on one discussion with a fraction of the tellers about their sales targets for the day, monitor their progress and organize appointments with the sales consultant when a "hot" lead is identified. 

Delegate department work among tellers and update the Sales manager every two hours about our daily sales. Attend to irate and bully customers in aid of the tellers.

15:30 the bank closes and the tellers must cash up,16:00 we hold our own department meeting where we discuss what went well and what went wrong, by 16:15 I report to the Sales manager with our daily sales figures.

I have learned to be patience with people and to treat every person as an individual and not to be influence by hearsays.

Management is supportive an gives guidance where necessary and gives honest feedback.

My co-workers are wonderful hard working individuals who at times forfeit their lunches in order to help clients.

The hardest part about the job was to give honest feedback to my team members, especially none performers and for issuing warning and dismissal letters.

Most enjoyable was when everybody is giving it all to the team customer service and  sales, when everybody receives his\her monthly bonus.

a typical day at work is prepare your workstation for the day ahead by making sure you have all the necessary stationary, float and equipment to begin your day. Everyday is a busy day between servicing your clients and running the day to day internal operations which includes keeping extensive administrations and management of funds on a daily basis.  This job have taught  me patience, focus and how to prioritize your work because in the banking industry you have no option but to multi task given the fact that you are working with demanding clients and their finances.  Management was most of the time not hands on or visible because they themselves are under severe pressure. Most of them were not very approachable thus making their relationship with their subordinates strict of nature. Most of my co-workers were very friendly, supportive and team players, they will assist you with a problem situation and cared about each others wellbeing. During quiet times we will make jokes and have fun while the rest were selfish and only put themselves first. The hardest part of the job was when you having a hectic day without taking any breaks and no one care to assist you in a difficult situation especially on busy days such as month end and management is also on your case about deadlines, targets etc. The most enjoyable part of the job was at the end of a hectic day with no hick ups in the branch and management comes to all of us and acknowledges and sincerely thanks you for the great work we've done and the whole team receives that energy and boost of moral and you can see how it emanates through the department.

I was in a very fast paced environment, with huge amounts of challenges.  I loved the energy and productiveness of my environment.  I was in a very fortunate position to have worked for a world class and dynamic leader (on Board and Exco-level).  He was leading his team with passion and dedication, he was results driven and made a difference. 

Also, in my opinion, it makes a difference who you are working with in such a huge organisation, in my case it was an exceptional leader, but there are also employees who are exposed to very toxic environments caused by bad leadership / management style with ego's trying to build empires and in this process, I have noticed that employees sometimes feel they are fighting a lost battle.  They have received unfair treatment, and if you are on a lower post grade job, your voice make no difference and you are treated as such.  It all depends who you are working with.  

ABSA Group, as an organisation, only want the best for each of their employees, they have exceptional programs in place to assist, to motivate, to create growth and  employees well-being are looked after, but, if you work with a toxic boss the environment is toxic and that is the cause of many unhappy employees.  Sadly, I have dealt with many of these managers, but I was in a very fortunate position to have worked with dynamic management, and that has made a huge difference, they protected their employees, created opportunities for growth and development.  They understood the dynamics of creating a happy environment and you will have happy and very productive employees 

ABSA Group will always, in my opinion, be one of the best organisations to work for.

According to me personally I think and believe sales or selling any product or services is the simplest thing in the world. You must just know what you are selling and advantages and disadvantages of what you are selling and the most crucial thing is to know your target and who to whom you are selling.You must just look presentable as we were at Absa Group ,have confidence ,be yourself ,be informed ,be up to date and know your competitors. If a relationship between you and your management and all staff members then your work and your role is much easier and simple. Honestly sometimes is very hard more especially wen you behind and you didn't reach your target cause its your responsibility and what is expected of you. Sometimes your appointments and clients don't peach and you had to execute your deal or sell.  The most enjoyable part of my role was I was working for Absa Group its marketing and its brand is very good and it makes my job vey easy and I will execute my deals immediately and also we had materials and system that helps us to generate leads or to see our targets.Ive learn that working as a team sometimes help and also sometimes working along is good. Working with sales without incentives doesn't makes you productive enough that what I've learn also .The hardest part of sales again is wen they've given you an impossible target or given you a products that you must sell and benefits or advantages of them are not good as the other competitor's cause clients they will be on you big time and you had explain everything to them.

Every morning you have either management meetings with peers where you discuss latest circulars that needs to be implemented & communicated to your subordinates.

Meetings with subordinates to share / communicate the circulars & implementation of it. How, when & who is responsible for changes as well as why changes needed to be implemented. Time management with Flexi timers & Productivity levels are also being discussed.
You discuss the previous days activities with your subordinates where you discuss successes & weakness of team performance. Motivational talks and guide Team to have a positive attitude in order to perform better. 
Identify high risk accounts on the system eg. accounts that is more than 90days or more delinquent and identify accounts that needs to be transfered to ABSA's legal Department. Send out management messages to subordinate on accounts that requires their immediate attention. Approve legal tranfers within my mandate or refer to my superior. Repremand staff that didnt attend to my management messages. You also compare the success ratio's of their promise to pays. Approval / Decline capitalizations on accounts this is where customers kept there agreed arrangement.
Attend management meetings during the day and approval of leave on the sap system. Also look at your targets & what you can do to achieve or exceed them.
Sometimes we worked overtime to ensure that we reach our targets.

Supported business Infrastructure, Distribution & Implementation: Opening & Closing of branches, including renovations. 

I had a very healthy working relationship with all my co-workers across the provinces and because of my excellent interpersonal skills, tasks were executed effortlessly and often received positive feedback from branches I serviced.

Although, I’m not complaining, I certainly had challenging moments, where I had to spent late hours in the office and at times, I’d be home working until the wee hours of the morning. In some cases, I worked over weekends, especially during burglaries, when I have to be on site. I travelled extensively. Also, my salary wasn’t in par with what the market was offering out there and the many accolades I’ve received, did bring any change to my remuneration, however, I loved my role and completing tasks/projects successfully and these achievements, brought an overwhelming feeling of pleasure and pride within me and made me popular within my Business Unit and I gained tremendous respect from my co-workers.

Job security has been an issue of great concern since 2011, as the company constantly restructured its business units, thus, resulting in staff retrenchments and staff being placed under re-assignments. My exiting had nothing in relation to the job security matter and if not for my family relocation, I’d still be performing my duties with diligence.

The 9+ years spent at the company, was an absolute pleasure and created many sound learning and development areas, which contributed positively in my career.

The hardest part of the job has being to see people leaving the company knowing deep down that we have not done enough as management team to truly support the employee.  Keeping records of wrong doing of staff without having set down with them and tried to walk a mile in their shoes to me is not offering support and it clearly is not grooming our staff for leadership position or expert positions.

A typical day for me has being folloiwing up on customer complaints, this is due to the fact that I am currently short staffed and loosing staff members fast, it is always a pitty when you are a new manager, because you are bound to walk in to problems which you were never informed about, it is terrible when you are not given a time fram to solve the problems which exist within the unit.

What I have learn is that before accepting any task, always find out what problems exist within that job task, find out what has being done to rectify them, if they have failed to sort out problems what in their view they think made them fail, find out what is suppose to be the staff complement for the unit and why that number.

I am a passionate person, I love working in teams and alone.  My most rewarding thing about the job, is helping others enjoy what they are doing, bringing meaning and sense in what they do, allowing people to see the bigger picture.  Winning inspires me deeply.
