Group 6, an Australia-based engineering company, is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Draughtsman / Technician or Technologist with a strong background in reinforced concrete and structural steel projects to join our team remotely from South Africa.
With major infrastructure and urban development activity underway in Queensland, including projects leading up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, this role offers involvement in a long-term pipeline of high-impact work. Our portfolio spans high-rise residential and mixed-use developments, commercial buildings, retail centres, educational facilities, and more.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong draughtsman to join our team on a fully remote basis. You will play a key role in producing high-quality structural drawings while contributing to basic design tasks under the supervision of our senior engineers. , offering a great balance for someone looking to develop their technical and design capabilities within a supportive, innovative environment.
You will work closely with our Australian-based engineers and BIM team, utilising modern tools and processes (including BIM workflows) to contribute to diverse and challenging projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Prepare detailed structural drawings, shop drawings, and documentation for residential, commercial, educational, and other building projects using Revit.
2. Support senior engineers with basic structural design calculations and modelling under supervision.
3. Collaborate on BIM models and ensure coordination with architectural and other consultant drawings.
4. Review and revise drawings based on feedback, ensuring compliance with Australian standards and project requirements.
5. Maintain clear communication with the Australian team across time zones.
6. Assist with project documentation and quality control processes.
Requirements
1. National Diploma in Civil Engineering (or equivalent qualification) – essential, providing the technical foundation for this role.
2. Strong technical background in structural drafting with proven experience in a consulting or design environment.
3. Min. 5+ years’ experience Revit (essential).
4. Understanding of structural engineering principles and the ability to perform basic designs under supervision.
5. Design experience in residential, commercial, or similar projects is beneficial.
6. Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
7. Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
8. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote setting while collaborating effectively with a distributed team.
9. Previous experience with Australian standards or projects is a plus but not required.
